That has actually a lot to do with the NBA changing from having traditional Cs to today's C/PF hybrids who are 6'10, 11 and up to 7 ft. They are today's power bruisers. Jones has the right weight 250, must be all mental though.
It could be that he just hasn't figured out how to use his weight yet. His game is still a bit raw in that you are right that he has the tools to be a good defender, but he hasn't quite put it together yet. I think he's behind the ball when it comes to the mental side of the game. He could look a lot bigger when he gets correct footwork and isn't out of position as often.
He is finally getting respect when he goes up vertically. the refs used to call him for blocking fouls all the time.
Jones has all the physical tools and the right skills for being a very good NBA PF. What he lacks, IMO, is fundamentals, things like positioning, leverage, footwork, etc. DMo is ahead of him in these regards. There is hope that these things can be learned over time. Some gifted players never learned and thereby wasted their talent in mediocrity. Let's hope Jones can get it together before he gets shipped out.
That was a classic. Feeding the guy in the post while the other team just sits and watches...or fouls. The play where he tried to save it from going out of bounds and then ran all the way back to block the shot had me up in the air.
With Mr. MVP aka HarDen fouled out, watching Donatas Motiejunas, Jason Terry, & rookie Nick Johnson get work done in the da Clutch is a thing of beauty
DMo is developing into a nice player right before our eyes. A Howard/Jones/DMo frontline is actually pretty darn good if they are all healthy.
