Sorry to start two threads within an hour, but I have the day off and I am bored. Some of Sonny's comments have intrigued me about all the great trilogies and I thought it would be a good discussion. I included a few that haven't had the 3rd installment released yet just for arguments sake. I voted for Indiana Jones. HF is one of my favorite actors and I am really into history so I guess that is what does it for me.
I would probably say Godfather except for the fact that Part III was terrible. Im a big Die Hard fan, so thats why I voted other.
Godfather. The greatness of the first 2 make up for the lameness of the third. Just perfect movie-making...perfect. They just don't make 'em like that anymore.
Lethal Weapon is not a trilogy. Indy will no longer be a trilogy soon. Neither will Terminator or Die Hard (although both are essentially in the rumor phases right now). If you count multiple sequels in your poll, then you have to add in Rocky, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, yadda yadda yadda. If that's the case, then Police Academy totally blows the others out of the water and gets my vote. That is, unless they make another Legally Blonde sequel (oh, how I hope and pray!), which will easily take the Trilogy prize. Oh, wait.... BEST trilogy... Whoops, my bad. That distinction belongs to Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, hands down.
Other. I think Clint Eastwood's "Dollars" trilogy is the best. While not really official sequels per say, these movies are nonetheless considered a trilogy, and there are numerous threads which tie them together. "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" "Fistful of Dollars" "For a Few Dollars More"
The Star Wars trilogy is the best, hands down. I think these are three of the best movies ever made -- and I'm jaded and cynical! LOTR and Indy Jones are second and third, but they can't touch Star Wars.
Godfather, no question. Even the third one was great. "He's running around town, saying '**** Michael Corleone... say it to his face, one time, JUST ONE TIME, SAY IT."
The Godfather Trilogy I liked part 3, it wasn't on the same level as the first two, but I still enjoyed it.
The Godfather Trilogy Cinematic genius, even if the third film wasn't as good as the first two. I mean, I enjoyed Star Wars and IJ, but there's no contest...
LOTR Matrix Terminator I just don't understand the love Star Wars gets. I grew up in India and Star Wars really wasn't that big over there. I tried watching it when it was re-realesed over here a few years back. Its the only time in my life I have walked out of a movie theater.
I'm a huge Tolkien nerd, so I'd say LOTR Trilogy. Never really got bent out of shape with the changes they made in the movie from the book. Still haven't finished the third book, so it'll be interesting to see how they win
To all the dudes who voted for BTTF - you kick a$$. Also extremely close seconds behind BTTF for me Terminator Die Hard Indiana Jones Austin Powers The Matrix soon to be trilogy: Rush Hour, American Pie I liked LOTR also, just not one of my favs.
Star Wars, hands down. A New Hope is one of the all-time greats, Empire is the best film ever, and Jedi is a very good conclusion to the trilogy. Yes, Godfather I & II are great movies, but the story was over after the second flick. The third one isn't as horrible as some fans make it out to be, but it is a superfluous sequel. Plus, the absence of Robert Duvall was unforgivable(replacing him with George Hamilton was like rubbing salt in the wound), the inexplicable change to Connie's character was a joke, and Sofia Coppola...nuff said.
In my opinion it really comes down to the Story. Star Wars has a simple story, but you get it, and I think it delivers profound answers as to why humans do what they do.
I voted BTTF only because I have not yet seen LOTR or The Matrix. Star Wars was good, probably just as good as BTTF but I made my choice.
I'd heard about Die Hard 4, but not T4.... Cool - http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hp&cf=prev&id=1808406215
godfather 1 and 2 are by far the greatest movies ever, imo, so they more than make up for part 3. i still enjoy that one as well just not on the same level.
From what I know about Terminator 3, the movie totally sets up a sequel. Also, Ah-nold is on record as saying that he wouldn't mind making a fourth movie, assuming he has the time. There's already a Terminator 4 page on Yahoo! Movies. Check out some of the tidbits...
