Do you have any reasons why we should go after him? Otherwise you may as well have started a thread telling us what the current temperature is outside.
I think Jon Barry should take Mooch's spot on the team since he would provide the spark off the bench Mooch used to have but since he won't due to Mooch's huge contract I don't know if he's the best choice at backup 2.
Whoever we get to fill the voids at G ideally should be able to play at both the 1 and 2. Someone like Jeff McGinnis, Chauncey Billups, or even Troy Hudson. All have shown big game capabilities yet still fitting in as role players.
Why pick up a player that isnt even wanted by his own team and was even traded by his previous one. Besides that, he isnt as good as his brother! Have you checked his last seasons stats yet?
If the Rockets keep Mobley like I think they will, Barry would be a great back up! He'd probably only get 15-20 minutes per game so we wouldn't be expecting him to put up big numbers. He's just a savvy veteran who will come in and work his butt off, not make many mistakes, and hit the open shot.
THe biggest reason would be his hustle, heart, determination, and work ethic. I think Barry is a solid role player off the bench, the kind of guy you bring in as a spark when the top 5 or 6 players aren't getting it done.
Because Hawkins isn't a legitimate NBA shooting guard and Barry is. If Hawkins were, Mobely wouldn't have had to play 42 minutes per game. j
John Berry's Point Per Shot is decent. I think he would be a decent spark off the bench. Plus he would bring a nickname to our sad bench crew. King's bench = Bench mob Detroit's bench = Alternators what next... Rocket’s bench = ???
Rocket’s bench = Starters, errr, I mean Ignition Switches. D*mn, that doesn't work either. How about Differentials, Transmi...., no that doesn't work either. How about we just call them the Dip Sticks? The Ignitors!
Yes, Jon Barry is exactly the player I want. Like LaFadeaway said, he can hit the open shot, and he can handle the ball without eating 95% of the shotclock(cough, Moochie, cough).
"I tend to agree. The team definitely can't afford to throw money at Hawkins. I will say though that Hawkins' on court attitude is something the rest of the Rockets players should really watch and try to emulate. Hawkins plays with more aggressiveness than most of his teammates. He just doesn't have the skills to do much more than scrap in this league." The above paragraph was one of my posts about Hawkins on another thread. In addition to Barry's scrappiness, he can shoot and that is what separates Barry from Hawkins. As I said above, I love Hawkins attitude. He just doesn't have the natural skills to go with it.
I really like the addition of Jon B, he's got a high b-ball I.Q., great shooter, doesn't make the dumb mistakes that moochie makes, he's a good passer and he can play the 1 or the 2. He's a great hustler with alot of heart. He's a competitor who can come off the bench without making your team lose alot by taking their starters out. Another upside is that he doesn't demand alot of attention like alot of other available players who think their alot better than they are. A player with a good basketball brain is a must for the rockets, not just some idiot that happens to be a raw athelete, with Jon B you know exactly what you gonna get, 3's, hustle, heart, and intelligence.
A white guy winning the dunk contest. I don't think that will ever happen again. We should sign him just for that.
