is protecting a player for a trade respectable?

If you put a player on the IR for a trade, should you be happy w/ yourself?

I know it's practical, but it's also a bit dishonest to the integrity of the team. Would the Rockets have won tonight w/ Dream in the lineup? Probably. Ostertag was suspended for his trade demands... and Malone can't stop Dream and Mo.

I guess if Dream leaves this week, then for all practical purposes we can consider him having departed last week.

But if he doesn't leave, then the Rockets didn't put the best product on the floor...

I made a purchasing decision (to not go to the game), living in Utah, with this in mind. I could have had one of my last chances to watch Dream play (as a Rocket).

Sorry... just a bunch of mixed emotions.

A third possibility (and I admit, it's not likely) is that Hakeem really is hurt. If this is the case, then you can't say that the Rockets didn't put their best product on the floor.

As for mixed emotions...I'm with ya on that one. [IMG]

I live in SLC as well and didn't go to the game. If Hakeem was there I would have been at the Delta Center as well. I truly belive if Olojuwan was playing, the Rockets would have won. This loss sucks.

This may not apply to Dream, but if a trade is going down, the player that is going to be traded (assuming the team will let him know during this time) maynot have his heart and mind in the game. In that case, you will be putting an inferior product on the floor.

I am sure that Cato would've acted that way if he knew he would be traded. As for Dream, I am sure he would want to give 100%, but he may want to do even more, knowing that it will be his last games as a Rocket. That "extra" effort may cause him to re-injure himself.

In the case of Dream, this would be a tough call (if he is really being traded). In the case of Cato, it's a no brainer.

I'm disappointed in you all. The Rockets came to town and you stayed home. I live in Austin and jump at every opportunity to see them live. Whenever I have business trips, the first thing I do is see if the Rockets will be anywhere close to my destination. On the other hand, the power you hold as a consumer is all mighty. So in that sense, I appreciate you withholding yuor hard earned dollars from the evil Jazz. Granted you alone will not be enough to drive them out of town, but at least you've sent a message that you will not support their whiney, cheating, flopping, impersonating, hair club for men, punks, any longer.

If this is what is happening, then no, I do not think it is ethical. But how is it different from an ordinary player being on the IR when he's not really hurt? Achebe, you may not be able to go see anyone play if you feel this strongly about it.
