About 3 weeks ago, my brother-in-law took me to Gamecrazy, I think, to buy me a used game. I found one, Legend of Legaia Duel Saga, that cost only $13. I thought it was going to be crappy or broken but I got it anyways. I've been playing it and it is a lot better than I thought and hasn't given me any problems and it didn't have any scratches from what I could tell. The game was also somewhat new, coming out late November-early December of last year for the ps2. (ok, maybe 7 months is kind of long.) Now before I have a shopping spree at Gamecrazy, I want to hear advice on used games. Are all used games the same quality or was this game just a fluke? Is there any kind of warranty or whatever in case they are unplayable? Anything else I may have to know? BTW, I think I'll probably trade in some games, most likely NBA Live 2002 since it sucks. Only reason I got it was because Steve Francis was on the cover.
Same here. Usualy used games come from kids or teenagers that get bored of a game quikly and need money to buy a new one. Nothing wrong in used games. The only pbl I ever had is buying one and realising why it was sold back so quickly...it sucked! ALA
I've had a PS2 for about a year and a half now, and I own around 20 - 30 games (depending on whether you count the ones I've given away), and I've never purchased one brand new. Why spend $40-60 when you could spend less than $20? Of all the games I've ever bought, the only one I ever had trouble with was an NBA street game I got off Ebay for $7. It had a scratch, so I took it to a CD store and they fixed the scratch for $3, and now it's good as new. Don't fear paying less.
This thread reminds me of a thread someone started a few weeks ago. Anyway, check out this webstie. www.actsofgord.com the site was made by an owner of a video game store, and it has tons of really funny stories. Enjoy!
Just make sure you buy from a reputable source. My sister bought a used copy of Final Fantasy 7 from Microplay last year which was defective. The game would freeze during battles, making the game pretty much useless. Fortunately, Microplay has an exchange policy, so I was able to trade it for a working copy of FF7 without any hassle. I also bought a used copy of Castlevania 4 for SNES which wouldn't load. I brought it back and they cleaned the cartridge with some funky cleaning gel and it worked perfectly. The used copy of Eternal Darkness I bought this year works great. So, used games can be a good bargain, but make sure the seller stands behind his merchandise.
I think the only used game stores near me are Gamestop and Gamecrazy. Chances are that I'll just stick with those two. I assume these two aren't bad, but I have no experience with this. Are they? (though I guess stores in different locations could be different.) I didn't even think about buying games online but I'll probably stay away from them. I appreciate all the info. I always wondered how some of you had 20-30 games while I only had like 7. This should really change how I play video games. Yeah, I thought somebody might bring this up. I wish I hadn't read them all because now I want more.
RC -- GameStop and GameCrazy are both good businesses. I've never had any trouble with them, at any rate, and I've bought used games for SNES, PS1, and PS2. The only issue I had was I bought a used copy of Mortal Kombat 3 for the SNES that acted up: wouldn't load right, freezing, etc. I took it back and exchanged it for another used MK3 at no cost. Just keep your receipt and you'll be fine.
The used ones are just as good. For some reason, I insist on buying new ones. But, its the same damn thing...I may as well burn my money.
Gamefellas here in Austin is good. Along with the latest PS2/Xbox/GCN games, they also have a large stock of older games (used and new) for PS1, N64, SNES etc. in stock, including some that are generally hard to find elsewhere. Their used games are usually in very good condition.
Well, today I got my dad to take me to Gamecrazy and we got NFL2K3 for $20. Runs fine as expected and I am very happy. Thanks for all the advice. Now, how will I get the Dallas Cowboys to win?
