Considering how rare you visit, no one can tell you how busy or empty they are. What is the most often someone has been? Twice in ten years?

Check in online and they will text you when to drive there.

Go to one of the DPS Megacenters (whichever is closest to your house/work) and do the get in line online. I recently renewed my license and timed it perfectly and was in and out in less than five minutes. You can even move yourself back in line if you are running late, it worked really great when I used it.

    Second.

I walked in, filled out the paper work and called seconds after I filled out my form.

Went to the Rosenberg one midday sometime in July, took about an hour wait.

I used the Rosenberg and Columbus offices, and was in and out in 25 minutes. Very clean, uncrowded, and well-ordered too. The people seemed less rough/shady too.

This. Been there a handful of times. Never waited more than 30 mins, usually just around 10.

So I took a late lunch yesterday at around 3 with the intention of visiting the Dacoma office since it's not too far from work. The parking lot wasn't packed so I was feeling pretty good about it. I open the door and, no kidding, there were about 80 people there. I just turned around and walked out

Going to hit up one of the megacenters today with an appointment and hopefully I'll have better luck.

I usually hit the DPS office in Galveston. Admittedly it's been several years but I've never waited in a line longer than 2 people there.

I ended up doing the online queue system for the megacenter in Spring and I was in and out in 10 minutes. It took me longer to find parking than to wait inside to be called since I was in the queue. Amazing.

Of course, you can gather information from more than one person.

    bump...

Has anyone gone to the DPS location on Dacoma lately?

My license expires tomorrow so I'm trying to make it there by 3pm today.

Hopefully the lines aren't too crazy and I can get done by 5pm.

To reiterate, be sure to get there early. Some of those suburban offices are keen to city slickers coming in for the short lines, so some of them, like Boerne in SA metro, close early, like at 3:00 pm.
