It is hard for me to pick just 3, but I would go with:

    1) The Cure
    2) John Coltrane
    3) Radiohead

Others that I highly enjoy include the Smashing Pumpkins/Zwan, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Bee Gees, Nine Inch Nails, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, Massive Attack, Sigur Ros, the Clash, the Ramones, Elvis Presley, Coldplay, Delerium/Front Line Assembly, Enigma, U2, REM, Aphex Twin, Pantera, Beck, Cocteau Twins, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, Everything but the Girl, Moby, Herbie Hancock, Joy Division/New Order, Kraftwerk, Sarah McLachlan, Mike Oldfield, Orbital, Pink Floyd, Sonny Rollins, Sepultura (with Max in it only), Horace Silver, the Smiths, Soundgarden/Audioslave, Vangelis, Tool, and VNV Nation.

    An impossible question to answer...:D

    1. U2
    2. Coldplay
    3. Incubus

The Police used to be #1...but these 3 just have dominated my life too much lately. Police is a close #4 though.

Judged by "If I had to take the complete works of 3 bands/artist to a desert island with me, which ones would I personally choose?"

    1) The Beatles
    2) Radiohead
    3) R.E.M.

Also receiving votes, based on the volume taken up on my CD rack: U2, Led Zeppelin, The Police, Pearl Jam, Yo La Tengo.

LOL, as soon as I saw this line, I knew Manny couldn't do it. :D

Manny, do you have the new Peter Gabriel? I love So and Us and Secret World Live is one of my favorite CDs. I saw that tour (with Paula Cole singing backup) in Toronto. One of the better concerts I've ever seen.

Should I bother with the new one or not?

Yes, ima, I do have "Up" as I bought it when it first came out. It is a very dark album, reminds me a lot of PG's classic 3rd self-titled album (the one that had "Games Without Frontiers" and "Biko"). So, if you are expecting a happy album like "So", you might be disappointed.

The Blind Boys of Alabama guest on 2 tracks, "More Than This" and "Sky Blue" and both are great tracks, especially "Sky Blue" which is actually taken from Gabriel's last soundtrack album, "Long Walk Home: Music from the Rabbit-Proof Fence" (sorta like "Passion" but a little bit weaker).

I highly recommend "Up" to any Gabriel fan.

    The all-time tops:

    SRV

I didn't mourn my Dad liked I mourned Stevie Ray's passing

Then there is: The Home Team

Come on guys, ZZ Topp are like the Rockets; if your from Houston you gotta support them even if they are geezers. Besides they interpret and popularize the blues and ya'll all need more blues in your lives.

    And third: ZepAllmanSteelyWhoEaglesBeatlesThunderbirds
(a techincal breach of the rules I guess)

    Yea, I'm old too.

I guess the reason I don't like rap is cause I don't listen to the litteral meaning of the lyrics to any song really. And without the lyrics all rap music is just sorta the same beat.

It does amaze me that kids like Lebron James can actually sing along with the lyrics of rap songs..line after line after line. I hope those guys are saying somthing worth all that memorization.
