heypartner- A little research possibly uncovered the reason Badiane slipped. (As another note, Badiane's trainer (Eric Lichter), who allegedly helped him bulk up 17 pounds in 5 weeks, helped Ron Dayne lose 15 pounds in a short period time, and has also been the guy helping LeBron get his body "NBA-ready".

I haven't seen this posted anywhere else, Badiane Caught Off Guard

Malick Badiane of Senegal was also in Chicago last week. The 6-11 Badiane held scheduled two workouts, on Thursday and Friday, but to his surprise, found himself auditioning before five NBA teams during a Wednesday practice.

Badiane, who had just arrived in town the day before, was meeting with his trainer, Eric Lichter, to go through the drills he would be performing in his workouts. Apparently, an agent whose clients were to use the gym the following hour caught wind of this, and notified teams that Badiane would be on display with the intention of drawing club officials to his clients.

As Badiane was nearing the end of his training session that Wednesday, teams began filing in. Lichter, who wanted to give his pupil a chance to get acclimated to the drills before showcasing Badiane, became concerned, and pulled Badiane off the floor five minutes later.

The incident was erroneously reported in the media as Badiane's agent canceling a scheduled workout.

On Thursday, Badiane held his first official workout, before approximately six teams. The 19-year-old was impressive, hitting baby jumpers and hooks and excelling in strength and speed drills.

Badiane's Friday workout was met with mixed reviews. Many teams came away wanting more. Teams such as the Lakers, Dallas, Denver, New jersey, Boston and Phoenix have scheduled workouts.

    SLA,

Hmmm a nickname for Badiane would be good. How about Malick "Badi" Badiane?, Malick "Maki" Badiane?, "Segual"?,"Madi"?

I do not know if you are referring to the Rocky Mountain Review or not, but most of those camps are open only to draft picks, undrafted free agents and rookies from the prior year.

Second year players are not permitted to play.

    athletic, uncoordinated dork like Langhi

Oh no. I forgot about him. The poster child for the run and jump guy who otherwise can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

    NIKEstrad,

yeah, i just posted that in another thread.

don't see why that would cause him to fall. He was at Chicago, and many teams saw him for two days of *scheduled* workouts. My reading of that is Lichter pulled him out the day before, because they were surprised teams walked in on the unscheduled day. He still had two days of workouts, and all those teams could have called him back for more.

    did they?

Heyp, just as long as you don't get upset if he is the second coming of Hakeem or at least Stoudamire!

    NIKEstrad,

Do a quick search for Badiane and Workout.

At the Atlanta nba.com site, Badiane said he had 8 workouts at the point Atlanta looked at him.

Within the next three years, this guy will not do anything in the NBA. He can consider himself lucky if he makes it out of the farm team of the German team he plays for next season. Anyway, one cannot really expect too much out of a No. 44 pick, so if he ever does anything for the Rockets, I would be surprised.

Thanks SJC, I was waiting to see what you had to say on the matter, as you really would know more than just about anyone here about his performance in relation to quality of competition. I will temper my enthusiasm accordingly.

I was so hoping we could use him as someone to bring out some fire in EG in practice, or as a 14th/15th guy that occasionally gets to sit on the bench and be ready to punk those who give Yao the business. Anyhow, put a little more muscle on him, and would he really be all that different than Cato (who could then be moved for a useful asset or to clear some cap space)? What do you think, is that a bit of a stretch?

Is the German league similiar to other Euros where it's based on seniority or is it based on talent?

If it's based on talent, I say let him play in Germany and work himself out of the second tier. If he can't play in Germany, he won't be able to play here.

Apparently EG will practice with the Summer League squad, but won't play in any games.

I don't mean to be rude or anything...but...you guys seem to be TOO excited about the pick. I'd been tryin' not to be too excited or concerned about how they did in this draft cuz...

    It's just the 44th pick :) !!!

However, I truly hope that he's like Mobley. He (and the Rox's scouts who picked him) is/are just AMAZING!!! I still remember the day he appeared on houston chronicle after the draft and thought he'd be gone in a yr or two (while Dickerson and Drew appeared to be some sorta long-time assets).

If they had not given all these BIG STUPID contracts to Mooch, Taylor and Cato, the Rox front office would have looked much better.

Oh! the first 'he' I was referring to Badiane and the rest are Mobley!

    Sorry if that confuses anyone.
