I'm down for Saturday night. Funny thing about these get togethers is that the vast majority of the time, we just know who we are. However, I think with Buck's attire, we'll have no problem finding each other.
That's awesome! Had my first bar-beer at Jasper's Hamburgers on Westheimer & Wilcrest. I'm pretty sure I was in 8th grade, definitely not in HS yet. Me & a few kids from the neighborhood rode our bikes up there, parked 'em by the front door, walked in & proceeded to drink beer & shoot pool for a few hours. A week or so later, we're there again & my dad walks in. He says: "Couldn't find you in the neighborhood." "How'd you know I was here?" "I was a kid once, this is where I would've been." After we left, he apparently went back & b****ed out the manager.
DAYAAAMMMMM!!! Buck, we have to discuss this whole "parallel lives" phenomenon tomorrow over massive buckets! I remember Jasper's Hamburgers pretty well....went there a couple of times. Houston sure was a different place back then.....
I went by Red Door last Friday night briefly. It lost its luster quickly that night. Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode that George has the Model's picture and goes to the hidden club, then later returns with Jerry and its a meat packing plant. I am in town but I might have to go to San Antonio tommorrow. If I don't then I will make it!
The older "stripper & cheesed*ck" crowd now goes to Belvedere. Still Social on Sunday's but the crowd there has gone downhill fast. Red Door is now so uber-trendy that the masses are flocking from all points - thus making it a pain to be in on Fridays or Saturdays. Looks like I'll give Red Star a shot. M Bar has now become The Roxy Part 2. Zimm's & Uropa are always good - I'm amazed at the consistently good crowd & funtimes to be had at these two places.
On another note - wtf would you name your new bar "Belvedere?" Stupid! All that brings to mind is an irrationally overpriced vodka (it's really not the prestige/quality drink made out to be), and a bad 80's show about a fat male nanny. Then again, having met many of these houston bar/club owners - class, intelligence or foresight have never been any of their strengths.
I wanna go! Is this still the correct time and place?? RMTex....I remember your ugly mug from BW3s, so I'll probably recognize you. And thanks for the Frisco advice....Michaelangelos was fantastic.
Sweet. It'll be good to see ya'll again. I just noticed RM95's thread....It sounds like we're NOT going to the game, and just watching it at the bar, correct? And then everyone's going out afterwards....kick ass.
Are we still on for tonight at the Red Door? If so I'll be there along with 3 chicks who are coming with me, in addition to T_J and his shortie. How are we going to know who's who?
Went to Red Star last night. Had fun, love the top 2 floors/balcony view of dtown. It's more a dance club vd. Red Door as a lounge. If you're going to Red Door tonight, good luck. Enjoy being face to face w/ 400 other people vying for the attention of the 2 freaking bartenders in the place. Then again, you're going w/ 3 chicks - how bad can it be!
I checked out Red Star last night and although there were a good number of people there, it was not crowded at all. I think word is still getting out about the place. The setup inside is really cool with lots of Soviet Union pictures and decoration. Hot bartenders everywhere. The neighborhood around it is absolutely terrible. There's a homeless shelter across the street and homeless sleeping out on the street nearby. I think it will pick up with time, though.
My boo and I will be hitting both Red Door and Red Star tonight. Look for me, I'll be wearing a big gold chain with the words "Pimp Juice" hanging from my neck. My date will have a provocative top on which exposes the bottoms of her breasts.
BuckTurgid, Good suggestion on Red Star. I was there myself yet didn't recognize any of the BBS'ers. It was nice to hit the place before the WAVES come in and ruin it. I was with a date and two of her friends, and it was a mistake. There were some very lovely ladies there and the environment was very open to mingling. I even knew one of the bartender girls there and had a shot with her. I loved the plush downstairs with the booths and the sofas, I'm really starting to like going out in Houston more. So damn, BigTexx and three, I had three, where were some single BBS'ers when you need them! Drew! Where were you! Then again, I don't know what anyone looks like anyway!
All depends on your perspective. I was there last weekend with the new lady friend. She grew up in Eastern Europe, her family moved to the States in the mid 80's. Needless to say, she did not really care for all the Soviet-era decor. We did not stay long. She likened it to a Jew (or anybody else, for that matter) walking into a club that was decked out in Nazi paraphernalia. Just something to think about.
