It's mind boggling, from a starter to no playing time during a terrible offensive streak and there's one thing Canaan can do is shoot!
I don't buy the trade argument. Not when he's been glued to the bench all night in 2 of the last 3 games. And Memphis almost doesn't count cuz the Rockets were down 30 and McHale was desperate. The team has been putrid offensively since getting back from Mexico. The 3-point shooting in particular has been horrid. No one aside from Harden can create his own shot. And yet Canaan who played well in Bev's absence, can knock down 3's, and is at least capable of getting to the rack and scoring in transition can't get a single minute off the bench? And meanwhile Cisco is averaging 12 minutes(the equivalent of an entire quarter)? This isn't Morey telling McHale to bench a potential trade asset. This is the coach himself preferring to run a washed-up veteran out there(along with Terry who needs to be preserved for later in the year given his advanced age) instead of giving the young guys a shot, even one who's already proven he belongs on the court.
Our 2nd unit should consist of Canaan at PG and a mix of Terry and Daniels at SG. It makes almost too much sense for McHale.
The only reason Canaan isn't playing is Mchale. For what reason? Who freaking knows, but to me it makes no sense for him not to get any run at all. I also do not believe not playing Canaan is the reason why we are playing horrible now. Coach needs to be better at adjusting....9-3 is not time to panic considering the circumstances from injuries.
This. All three guys should be getting burn. Mins should be as follows: PG - Bev (30) / Cannon (12) / Terry (6) SG - Harden (32) / Daniels (10) / Terry (6)
ClutchFans want the coach to hold the players accountable until they actually do, and then they get upset. McHale has said that Canaan has some things to work on to become a complete player. I'm not surprised that Beverley and Terry are Getting minutes before Canaan. Also, we are all about defense this year. McHale has said that Canaan struggles against bigger guards, so sometimes the match ups don't work so well. After a year with the Viipers, where it was just run and gun, Canaan has some work to do to get minutes in place of Bev and Terry. And last time I looked, Bev and Terry were playing pretty well.
Maybe I should help rephrase his statement...Lin is a better PG than P.Bev, but not a better fit than P. Bev on this team...P.Bev played much better along side Harden and when Lin was assigned 6th man duty for us last season, he stunk it up in the playoffs...HE GONE!
Sorry, but this is a copout. Why was Canaan getting the starting nod over Terry when Bev went down? Why has Cisco continued to get minutes when he's practically a zero on offense out there? If Canaan's defense is so suspect, what about his performance against Tony Parker? Sure, the Spurs were shorthanded, but Parker is their best player and Canaan more than held his own on the defensive end. How about his defense at the end of the Philly game against Carter-Williams? McHale is acting like Canaan's been playing terribly this season and deserves to ride the pine. Meanwhile, he seems more than willing to excuse a string of subpar performances from other players on the team.
that is such crap. How can McHale claim to be playing Terry over Canaan for defensive purposes? Terry is trash on defense and can not create any shots, neither for himself, nor for others. Canaan is already the better player between the two, as Terry should be used solely as a backup SG/spotup shooter...
I agree that canaan is a better overall player at this point in their respective careers but i still want terry in the rotation. His shot making ability is very important in this offense. I want him to get his mins with harden on the floor.
There are plenty of minutes for both. Terry is better suited as the backup 2 behind Harden since his specialty is shooting. Canaan needs to be the primary backup to Bev. Daniels can get a few of the remaining minutes at the 2 and Cisco needs to never leave the bench again. I don't know why this is so difficult for McHale to figure out.
