BS. It took no courage to promote racist views as a white male in the south. He probably has since apologized for his views. Very courageous...just a couple of decades too late.

    I'm not related to Storm.

But yeah, it does touch a nerve.

Manny - It isn't tragic. It's just sad when people say things like 'good riddance'.

The difference being, most people became more accepting in the 50's-60's-70's, and very few were as outspoken about it as Strom

Who says no one has a problem with that a-hole? And what does Byrd have to do with Thurmond's death, which I understand to be the subject of this thread?

I don't know if you realize this, but the posters who are choosing to blast Thurmond aren't doing it because of his party affiliation, it's because of his views.

It used to be that everything was a "Black\White" thing, now it's a "Dem\Rep" or "Conservative\Liberal" thing. How annoying!!

For the record, I have absolutely nothing to say about Thurmond. I was taught that if you don't have anything nice to say...

Smirnoff Ice was also very courageous when it made fun of white people not being able to dance. I find it appalling that you took offense to an alcohol company trying to maximize profits by exploiting an old negative stereotype. And you call yourself a capitalist.

Unfortunately you're going to be a little sadder if you read the line below.

One less racist, d******d, b*stard in the world. Good riddance.

I agree. If people despise the man so much, do like Live did...don't comment at all. Saying "good riddance" and stuff like that makes one look as bad as Strom during his segregationist days.

i've never been a fan of strom thurmond...but let's tone down the "bye bye bigot" talk...that's a little over the top for a man who just died. let's show some grace and dignity for the deceased.

I'm surprised so many people are getting their panties bunched up defending freaking Strom Thurmond. He's not the pope but some relic of the racist south. So get over it. He's a piece of ****.

It's just sad when people say things like 'Welcome to my ignore list' :(

Although it doesn't actually make ME sad, none the less it is sad.

    BTW. I'm terrified.

Although his character is questionable I respect his service in WW2 and participation in the Normandy invasion. A lot of men lost their lives that day.

The next time you strom haters are in Washingtion D. C., you need to make sure you go by and spit on the Lincoln Memorial. Lincoln believed in segregation also.
