so I'm getting back to Houston next week and I want to check out Killen's. I have a one year old so long lines in cold weather aren't great. What are the lines like on the weekends? Or...what about at lunch time on Wednesday?
It's not opinion, you are correct. Chopped beef is already sliced and it's from various parts of brisket. When you order Brisket, you can specify if you want the fatty, lean, or middle portion and it tastes different because it's freshly sliced. Completely different texture and flavor. chopped beef: sliced brisket:
I was there last Friday at 11:30am, and waited about 40 minutes to get the food. Worth the wait though.
I got there last Thursday at 10:25am, and I was the first person in the parking lot. About 10:45am people were lining up out front.
Killens is the best bbq in Houston. I had corkscrew but wasn't impressed. Never had Gatlins but heard good things. Don't think I'll ever try Franklins. I'm more than happy with LA BBQ for 30 min wait and Micklethwait for 10 min wait.
you have to do it , you have to complete the mission. i think i'll go this week. then i'll be a vegetarian for a few weeks.
Killens is overrated. The food was average. Can't believe y'all are hating on Rudy's now - it's way better and they aren't as stingy with their portions. Just went last week. Franklin's FTW doe
Never had Killens but I absolutely love Gatlins. I may try Killens this holiday season when I'm in H-Town
I went to Franklin today and after eating Killen's on Monday, I can say that Franklin is still better. However Killen's holds it own and has it's own distinct flavor. I don't get the Rudy's hate either, the Rudy's in central texas are good, maybe near Houston it's not good. It is way better than LUTHER'S if you remember that place in Houston. Waiting in line at Franklin is not bad if you are with a friend.
in austin, it was like this http://austin.eater.com/2014/11/18/...weather-gear-at-killens-austin-pop-up#4342522 I waited like 30 minutes
i went today at 1130 ish. tales of long waits is overrated, especially if you've waited like 2 hours at Franklins. my wait was like 20-30 minutes and the weather was nice. Brisket was the star again, didn't get beef ribs . good flavor for the pork ribs but not that tender. sausage (Regular) was great. sides and deserts were great too. meat coma occurs after one hour. pearland is not the most scenic place, but it's not far. will go again next time i'm in houston.
Alright fellas, I could use some help. I'd like to purchase my Dad a new grill for Christmas. He already has a propane grill and he's said many times he should get a smoker but has yet to. I've done a little research and have found a few. I'm a college student, so I'm a bit on a budget as well. I don't think he'd need one too big, something to cook ribs, roasts and the occasional brisket I suppose. Is there a big difference between a smoker with the firebox and a normal charcoal grill? Here's a few I've come across: http://www.lowes.com/pd_44754-49769-...3D1&facetInfo= http://www.homedepot.com/p/Char-Gril...7?N=5yc1vZbx8h http://www.homedepot.com/p/Brinkmann...0?N=5yc1vZbx8h Thanks in advance for any input, will rep!
Massive difference. Ribs can be done on a regular charcoal grill, but a brisket would probably be impossible. If you really want to bbq, the real way, you need a smoker. None of your links work for me btw.
