..."Out of my cold, dead hands!"
    - Charlton Heston (legendary former NRA President)

Thanks to Mr. Heston, the NRA is larger, our country is stronger, and our freedom is safer...

I enjoy sporting rifles and combat-type pistols and shotguns...I shoot for the sport and target practice. I haven't gone on a shooting rampage and nor has the millions and millions of gun loving owners out there...

I say gun ownership is at a crossroads because in just over a years time, two things will happen...

#1, and the best thing is that the 1994 Clinton gun ban will expire on Sept. 13, 2004 .... :D

The evil #2 thing is that it won't just be "reauthorized", it will be more sinister in the application of banning millions of more guns and furthermore will initiate a backdoor national registration scheme...

It seems obvious the tactical strategy of anti-gun politicians such as Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) is to desensitize the public to the regulation of weapons in preparation for the ultimate confiscation...

***What I'm talking about here is H.R. 2038 introduced by, in my opinion, very un-American idiotic politician (named above)...

Other diabolical agents involved include Sens. Chuck Schumer, Ted Kennedy and Dianne Feinstein...

The fact is in 1996 the House of Representatives voted across party lines to repeal the Clinton gun back...Surely a step in the right direction!...This was critical. Why should we even have this fight to begin with? The 2nd admendment is or should be set in stone!...Even Clinton conceded to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, "The fight for the assault weapons ban cost 20 members their seats in Congress"...

The debate is not really about so-called "assault weapons". It's about banning guns. It's about the gun prohibitionists searching for the damned easiest target of opportunity. They want to go after my "AR-15's" ...The ones that are "scary" looking to many folks, claiming these are "weapons of choice" for criminals...It's all lies!...

The question whether or not you are a gun-owner is not the real issue here!...The issue is your sacred rights (if you choose to enact said so rights) being confiscated as if you are a worthless and mere subject and far from a citizen...

I implore all posters to contact the U.S. Capitol switchboard (202) 221-3121 to kill H.R. 2038 before it even has a chance to breathe!!!

On a side note (after researching this...) Good News! Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas) was reported as saying most House members are willing to let the ban expire next year! I guess Politics can be a two way street sometimes...

    Settle down, Chicken Little.

No one's trying to take away your non-assault weapons, whether you think they are or not.

Yes, they are Rocketman 95, let me give you some quotes...

"If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an out-right ban, picking up every one of them, Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in, I would have done it"

    - Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), on CBS' "60 minutes"

...Mr. and Mrs. America turn them all in? ...Those are the only words gun owners should ever need to remember! I certainly have...

I know this is unfair, but I want to spill another one...

"This year will go down in History. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets are safer, Our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future!"

    - Adolf Hitler, 1935

Amen..... I heard a little story about liberty and Germany when the Nazis took over. A Lutheran priest said that when the Nazis came for the homosexuals and Gypsies, no one uttered a word. When the Nazis came for the Jews and the Catholics, no one complained. But when the Nazis finally came for the Lutherans, there was no one left to oppose it. Allow one of our freedoms to go away and the rest will slip away as well. A well-armed populace is essential to the protection of individual property and rights and to act as a check on an abusive government.

So, you have the quote of one Senator that said she would love to take away every gun, so that means that it's going to happen?

Settle down, it's not going to happen.

Suppose the people running the u.s. govt. decided they wanted a totalitarian dictatorship. Do you really think that gun owners who were allowed to keep their firearms, could stop the U.S. military? Gun ownership is not in any way, shape, or form, a check to an abusive govt.

I hear the argument all the time, about how the gun owners help keep the govt in their place. It's a big joke.

Also it wasn't the fact that German's registered their guns that allowed Hitler to do the horrible things he did. Hitler is always brought up by the NRA when arguing about gun control, and gun ownership in Nazi germany had almost zero to do with the early success of the Nazi party and their schemes.

By the 1994 gun law is set to expire. Why the rejoicing? Which caused more lack of freedom in our country - the gun law(which didn't seem to wind up with every gun owner giving up their arms or taking them in to register them even.) or the Patriot Acts I & II?

The arguments used here make mediocre soundbites, and zero sense.

Exactly. And I have no problems with having to register my hunting rifles & shotguns either.

Bowling for Columbine is a nasty bit of anti-American propaganda.

"You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass."
    --Japanese Admiral Yamamoto, 1941

"No free man shall ever be de-barred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain their right to keep and bear arms is as a last resort to protect themselves against tyranny in government." - Thomas Jefferson

"Americans need never fear their government because of the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation." - James Madison

"Both the oligarch and Tyrant mistrust the people, and therefore deprive them of arms."—Aristotle

"Society in every state is a blessing, but government, even in its best stage, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one." - Thomas Paine Common Sense; 1776

Think about it this way. If the imperial Federal govt. banned guns, who would own them?

    A. The government
    B. Criminals

Now I don't see a lot of difference between the two. Both seek to deprive me of my property and my rights and both are armed to accomplish said means. Trust me, if the Vietnamese could defeat the world's finest fighting force without any of the techno-goodies the U.S. forces possessed with only small arms, courage and tenacity, the vast numbers of law-abiding gun owners could definitely do the same if need be. How do you explain the Soviet defeat in Afghanistan? An armed populace threw out a modern armed force armed only with small arms and some of our great Stinger SAMS. Trust me, with the masses of sharp-shooting military veterans (I'm one of them, an ex-Marine, semper fi) out in circulation nearly everywhere, trained shooters would be everywhere. So it is a check on the power of the imperial Federal govt. And what do you know about what happened with the Nazis? I double-majored in journalism and history and I wrote a 25 page research paper on the rise of the Nazi regime. My point was not that gun seizure contributed to the rise of the Nazi thugs, but that when another man's liberties are trampled upon and you do nothing, when the govt. comes to deprive you of liberty and property no one will be left to speak up for you. At least get it right.

Another thing bamaslammer, I asked a Military officer based near the Smyrna, Tenn. airport this very hypothetical thing about taking on at-large armed citizens throughout the country...and he told me that could very well be a fight the mighty U.S. military could lose...Himself a member of the NRA, he noted there is at least 20 million to 40 million armed citizens scattered throughout thousands of miles...Many of these folks have military or para-military arms such as AR-15's with semi-armor piercing rounds such as SS109 green tip 62 grain (going for a mere $4.00 per box from the internet)...You have tons of "sniping"-type rifles that gain advantage in guerilla tactics...You have thousands of folks armed with .50 BMG semi auto and bolt action rifles with 725 grain incendiary tipped rounds which deliver over 10,000 foot pounds of energy at the muzzle! These arms can take on light armored material such as Bradley fighting vehicles and low flying aircraft...I asked him if the U.S. could just bomb us, and he said he guesses it possible, although it would be too many conventional bombs to cover such extreme vast areas and Nuking the states broadly would probably mean ultimate defeat anyhow for the Government....

i don't know if the citizenry could hold off the government or not in a doomsday type scenario...but i'd sure hate to take away any fighting chance.
