Would neg rep for stupidity if I could. Spanking with a belt is not a big deal, and is perfectly legal in this state (not sure about Florida) as long as you 1) don't leave any marks and 2) keep it on the butt (avoid the back and legs). It's also fairly effective with a lot of kids. These kinds of cases get called all the time, and are very often simply an attempt by one parent to get at the other parent. In CPS they are called D&C cases (divorce and custody), and waste a substantial amount of investigators' time. And you might not have noticed due to not reading the actual report, but he was cleared anyway.
IMO physical discipline is needed for kids. I can't remember the last time sitting down with a child and going "This is bad mmmkay?" worked for any parent. As a kid, whenever I did something bad, I got disciplined for it and didn't do it again. Stuff like grounding or talking just doesn't work.

I got the belt...and switches growing up. But very very rarely. You don't misbehave often when you parents use those.

No joke right? How times have changed, but that doesn't necessarily mean it was right to kick my a#$ as a child even though I deserved it. The fact is it doesn't work, and often the kid will taunt their parents back by saying "it didn't hurt". Just FYI, CFer's be prepared for this to get picked up by BSPN and become a thing because that's what they do. It really should be DSPN (D for Drama). The know Dwight is enemy #1 to half of their basketball audience and they will eat this up.

I personally disagree that physical discipline was ineffective, though that's probably more of a philosophical outlook than anything else. Lord knows I needed a beating for some of the crap I pulled as a kid and no amount of grounding or talking would have made me behave.
