With all this chatter here about there might be some question as to Badiane's true age, I found this to be interesting: http://www.die-giraffen.de/tvlangen/show_player_ext.php?teamid=1&playerid=82&stats=Extensive List's his Birthdate as 01-01-1984 Doesn't that just scream "made up" ? Like it's an answer you give a cop when your caught with a beer... Cop "How old are ya boy?" Boy "uhh 21 sir" Cop "Oh yeah? When's your birthday? Quick now boy!" Boy "uhhhh uhh, January 1th, uhhh Nineteeen Eighty, uhhh...."
Quite frankly, EG did lead the team in blocked shots his rookie year. The Dream was the only other player in franchise history to do that. It's EG's lack of offensive skills and intensity that has everyone on this board down on him. Personally, I say give him time to develop for a couple more years. If the improvement is negligible, then we call him a bust.
thanks for posting all the info on this guy. it didn't say **** on gay little espn. they completely skipped over our pick. didn't even talk about him.
Yeah guys, can't help but wonder how a guy who was rumored to be a top 15 pick or at least a lock for the first round falls to #44. There's something odd about that. I like the pick, but it's doubtful he'll amount to much of anything. Why would he slide so far???
outlaw, is that what you're watching to celebrate the decision? what does that say on the box? hmmm (squinting) "can the big black man handle kevin's bacon". oh I see.
I'll say this. Even if this pick doesn't pan out in the end, his pick certainly makes more sense than Jason Collier and Dan Langhi did.
Remember when everyone wanted to get rid of Cato? Give Eddie some time and he'll be great. Nothing will piss me off worse than if we trade Eddie just to watch him playing in an All-Star game 3 years from now wearing some other team's uniform.
if you go check on the official nba draft website, (you can find a link on rockets.com) then check under nba draft 2003 official caps you will see that the only rockets cap they have is the blue one, unlike the one he was wearing, i think it was someother teams cap the one he used.
The same thing happened to Cutino Mobley who had a fantastic run in the NCAA tourney carrying a talent challenged RI team to respectability almost by himself. Projected to go mid to late first round but mysterioaly ended up on our laps in the 2nd round (I was estatic then because I was his huge fan and I taught we had a steal). Now those who snoozed and now biting their fingers. What about Rashaad Lewis? 2nd round? I say fire all them crazy GMs ASAP!!! 2nd round? Geroutahere!!! How? Rashad? Boozer! 2nd round? Geoutahere!!! Malik Rose! Yes Malik!!! Dressel U product. 2nd round. And many more. In every case, many GM snoozed and passed on great opportunities and talent. If only 20/20 hindsight was allowed in these drafts eh This things happen. I did not expect much from this draft but this pick is the BESTEST case scenario. This man will be playing in the NBA for a long long time. I have that feeling. He is just what the Doc ordered. A potential major contributor who cares about D, plays with passion, has a healthy chip on his shoulder and does not need the ball to shine. A+ with a dose of perspective.
Malik Rose was taken 44th as well... I'm not going to buy into any of this hype for now. I mean this is still a 2nd round pick. If he contributes... great. If he doesn't... I won't be suprised.
I was listening to 610 tonight and they were pretty upset about this pick. What is the connection Malick has with the Mavs? They brought that up a lot.
True. That's why I just seem him as an "energy guy." Not a starter and surely not a "star." Just a guy that comes in causes defensive trouble for our opponents.
Exactly what I was thinking when we drafted him. Hahaha! All I hear about him is his (ugh) upside, with the rare downside being his inexperience. If he "blew away" this guy during workouts according to the articles above, then why'd he sink to #44? Timberwolves, with rare pick, choose high schooler Ebi 26th With their initial first-round pick in three years, the Minnesota Timberwolves selected high schooler Ndudi Ebi with the 26th overall selection. The Timberwolves traded their 2000 first-round pick and had their next two taken away by NBA commissioner David Stern as punishment for signing forward Joe Smith to an illegal contract. They also do not have first-round picks in 2004 and 2005. The 6-9, 195-pound Ebi is of Nigerian descent and attended Westbury Christian High School in Texas. He committed to Arizona before deciding to enter his name in the draft. In his senior season, Ebi averaged 22.7 points and 11.6 rebounds to lead his team to a state title. Ebi, who was born in London, participated in the McDonald's All-American game and guarded LeBron James, turning in a credible defensive effort.
Look around this thread. He's quoted as saying that his favorite player is KG and his favorite team is the Mavs. Before some people "flip out..." read on... Here's a little perspective. The guy is a foreigner. If you live in a Senegal/Germany. How in the heck do you have loyalty to a team in Texas called "the Rockets?" No. All you are is a fan of the NBA. And from an outsiders perspective, you just watch the teams that interest you. Two of the most exciting teams to watch are the Kings and the Mavs. They are up and down, high-scoring teams. Can you blame him for liking the Mavs? He has no ties to the Rockets! It's just a fans perspective. Do you honestly believe that he was supposed to say, "The Rockets are my favorite team?" Come on. That would be lying just to please the "homers." His loyalty is the Rockets now. Now that he's a member of the team. That's all that matters.
This was a great pick at 44.. he could be just what the Rox need, and maybe a replacement for EG. Wouldn't it be great though if EG came out of his stupor and Badiane turns out to be a steal? MoT could be gotten rid of and our pf position would be set. Well I'm happy.
He was projected to go to the Mavs (29th pick), not as high as 15, so that's a borderline first round pick. Check out Maciej Lampe who was projected b/w 5 and 10 and he was only drafted in the second round. Now that you question.
Those 4 you mentioned may be the only 4 out of the last 100 2nd round picks (maybe a couple more I am not sure) who still remain in the NBA. Sorry to sound pessimistic but the fact is that the odds of 2nd round picks staying at NBA beyond 2nd/3rd year (let alone become a solid contributor) are not very high. Just a warning. Don't hold your hope too high to make youself more dissapointed afterwards (I can't believe that you haven't learnt it after so many years with those Langhi, Griffin and Boki situations and they were much higher picks as well). And yeah I wish the guy succeed too. Just wish.
The chances of getting anything that resembles an average player in the 2nd round are slim, I like this pick hes a project that can be worked on. If it works great if not than oh well nothing lost. I doubt we will be kicking ourselves a few years from now because of a Matt Bonner or a Kyle Cover or a Xue Yuyang are else where. At 44 theres nothing muching you can to but roll the dice. Nice pick by CD
