I noticed that too but just because the cap is different doesn't mean that it has the new logo on it. In fact, I really doubt it. Maybe it wasn't even a Rockets cap because the Rockets weren't expected to have anyone show up on stage to shake Stern's hand. It could be a Hawks cap as a replacement because they were scrambling to find a Rockets cap. :)

Maybe this is why the cap wasn't shown.

Anyways, I'm sure one of you guys will scour the internet (i.e. Senegal newspapers, German newspapers, etc. ) Somewhere, there has to be a picture of this guy up close when he shook Stern's hand.

    Now go find it!!!:)

    I like this pick!

Maybe Moochie will be named the official "rubber band holder on Badiane's dunks" to allow further development of Malick's strength. Plus, if he has a task, Mooch will be less inclined to mess up the Rocket's practices by running out on the court.

He might be OK. But then again, it's more likely that he's Venson Hamilton with a cooler name.....

    I LOVE this pick.
Give him time and he should be able to make a solid contribution.

About 5 picks earlier I told my buddy Rox were gonna take him, I was jumping up and down when they did.

Give him 2 or 3 years and everyone will be loving him.

    Go Malick!:D

After reading the scouting report, why in the world did this guy fall to the 44th pick?

I don't mean to rain on the parade, but stop jumping up and down and look at his new contract with the German team. Will that or will that not be an obstacle to his playing for the Rockets?

    hmmmmmm...

    Also from NBADraft.net:

"Rumors persist that he is closer to 22 than 18. If this is the case, he isn't the same appealing pospect with years of development in front of him."

also says he will likely enter the 2004 draft, so this info is a bit old.. however, the 'closer to 22 than 18' rumor is interesting.. any of you big brains out there able to sniff anything out about this?

Well IF his German contract prohibits him from coming here this year, I'm actually kind of OK with that. Let him get a year or two of experience overseas where he'll get the playing time rather than sit him on the bench collecting dust (i.e. Boki). Then when his contract is up we still have his draft rights and bring him over.

I don't think his age is going to matter all that much. He is young and his body is completely grown except for some more filling out. The fact remains that he has only been playing basketball for five years hence the loads of potential.

What in Sam Hill is this preoccupation with a hat when the issue is when, if ever, he can play for us. I'm sure the German team will let him wear the silly hat whenever he wants.

He sounds like a great pick! And I agree that a season in Europe might give him some fundamentals. (plus he's not counted against our cap)

Hope we find out soon about his contract situation, thumbs.
    I'd give CD a thumbs up! ;)

The hat discussion should really take backstage discussion to the talent discussion, but if it helps ...

The official Rocket draft cap was navy with the old "R" secondary logo. It's probably the last piece of merchandise created with the old logos ... as far as I know, the NBA doesn't have any caps with the new logos.

The only hat with the new logo in existence is the sample I got in FedEx today, and that one is locked up in my office at the moment. :D

I hope we don't let this guy develop overseas then not even bring him back to the team (Radmonivic).
