Here it is on espn insider:

    The line: 6-11, 225, 19 years old
    Pronunciation Muh-leek Bahd-ee-en
The stats: 11.7 ppg and 8.9 rpg on 48 percent shooting
    NBA comparison: Ben Wallace

The skinny: Badiane is a beast. He already has an NBA body and has tremendous strength. He's very long, but his frame is still muscular. He plays aggressively, and it pays off in rebounds and shot blocking. He runs the floor very well and is a good jumper. He has long arms and is known as a very hard worker. Offensively, he's much more raw, though his game is beginning to emerge. Several of the NBA's top African scouts feel he'll eventually become a force on the offensive end, as well. Of all of the young, African prospects to come to the NBA in the last 20 years, Badiane has the most offensive potential of any since Hakeem Olajuwon if you're willing to wait a few years.

The context: Badiane spent last season playing for T.V. Lagen in Germany. Lagen is a second-division farm team for the Opel Skyliners. The German league has gotten better over the last few years, but its second division is pretty weak. Before that he was in Senegal, where the basketball development is minimal. In other words, his experience playing pro in Germany last season can't count for too much.

The kitchen sink: Badiane emerged on the scene during an impressive showing at the ABCD camp last July. He emerged from the camp as one of the top 30 players. He actually tried to find a way to get to the United States and play high school ball last year but was ruled ineligible. A strong workout earlier this month during the Chicago pre-draft camp helped his stock. Badiane worked out with a fierce intensity that impressed many teams. After the workout he told Insider his favorite player was Ben Wallace. That's a good thing, because early in his career he's going to have to be that type of player.

Where will he go? The Hornets and Celtics have been eyeing him at No. 18 and No. 20, respectively. Doubt he slips past the Mavs at No. 29.

    Three words: We got punked!

I mean about ESPN. This guy we took up seems like a good project maybe. A decent pick for #44.

So, his comparison is Ben Wallace, he's a teenager, and he wasn't expected to slip past the first round? I'd say we did pretty damn good.

So this guy has no offensive game but is athletic as hell and can grab a rebound or two. What does Kelvin Cato have over him?

Does it really matter if a commercial was on?

I don't think the world is coming to an end now.

No doubt...go through the same freaking commercials over and over...watch every pick come up, put their hat on, and then they show their stats. They go to a commercial when it's our pick, they come back after two picks, and show him taking two steps, shake Stern's hand and then start talking about the dude pick next. No stats, no comments, nothing!

On a side note...think ol Dickie V likes the "globalization" of the NBA??? He was ripping it apart!

You guys are acting as if Houston was the only team that got screwed by the commercials.

There isnt much info out there on Badiane. Plus, I doubt they had any highlights of him playing. There really wasnt much for them to say about that. Would it have been that much better if they just mentioned he was a project?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I sat through what seemed like 43 hours of stupid commentary from the likes of Tom Tolbert, Dick Vitale, and the rest of the idiotic ESPN crew to see 3 seconds of our pick going up on the podium. I didn't even know what his name was until that damn bar on the side scrolled his name. But yeah, we did well for the 44th...just annoyed as hell.

    9. Malick Badiane, Senegal*
    The line: 6-11, 235, 19 years old
The skinny: Badiane had a big workout in Chicago that certainly helped his stock. He's one of the strongest, most athletic big men in the draft. He is an above-average defender, strong rebounder and a great shot blocker. He runs the floor like a guard and is an explosive leaper. He has a soft shooting touch and his range extends out to 15 feet. Of all of the young, African prospects to come to the NBA in the last 20 years, two NBA scouts claim Badiane has the most offensive potential of any since Hakeem Olajuwon. He's a late first rounder.

    44. Rockets SELECTION
    Malick Badiane | PF | 6-11 | Senegal

Ford's Take: Nice pick in the second round. He's strong, athletic and runs the floor well. He's an agressive rebounder and shot blocker. He's very raw offensively. He'll spend another year or two overseas.

i don't know about everyone else's opinion, but the rockets may have come out of this draft with a STEAL. this guy is a great athlete, and there have been comparisons to hakeem. and i also read an article that said badiane is as good as amare stoudemire athletic wise, jumping ability, and etc that quoted scouts around the league. i was really surprised that players projected to go in the second round were being picked in the first round and how this guy managed to drop all the way down to the rockets. oh well, lucky. yeah, i was disappointed that they didn't interview or talk about him or show any video footage of him. and he might have to play overseas this upcoming season, maybe that's why he dropped so low. espn sucks. they need to put it back on tnt. they provided better analysis.

Geez people...ESPN hardly showed any of the 2nd rounders - maybe 3-5 of them after the first couple. So who cares if they showed it? It's the player that matters.

As a matter of fact yes. Up until that point every pick was given at least the physical attributes. All they showed was his 5 seconds, said his name and then the highlights of the next pick. Then, as I'm waiting for the slow ass ticker on the left to finally change from Rockets "first pick 44" to my new players F'ing info...and what happens...they go to another commercial just as Houston's box was scrolling down. Were we hosed, yea, will I live yea...I just waited all that time, and all I saw was the side of this guy and the side of the hat.

No, we actually try to bring some logic to this thread.

I am more surprised that rockets.com has not updated to profile the draft pic as of yet, it is nearly midnight.

I'm just trying to add some facts to the original post. What other draftee was announced by name only. It wasn't the "ESPN didn't give all the players the same air time" thread. I just find it humerous. Logic or not, they just breezed right by our pick. But I sure have that "I think I'm going to the bathroom, wanna come" Budweiser commercial burned in to my cranium.
