http://www.houstonchronicle.com/spo...72&cmpid=twitter-premium&t=8bf099296b006749db good comments from McHale on the difference having veterans has on the team this year. "When you kind of accept where you're at and you get a role, you just play. There's more of that. Bringing in Trev and Jason Terry and still having Francisco (Garcia), there's some older guys who can be the voice of reason. "They understand what it takes. I think they're content with where they're at. "When you have young guys, especially chasing a lot of individual stuff, it ends up being unsettling. Our guys are pretty content with where they are. They're chasing wins. If they have nine points and we win or 15 points and we win, they're really not concerned. That really was not always the case." Maybe he sees Troy as going after individual scoring? I know from preseason coaches want Troy to make plays for others. But when he's the best shooter on the bench unit, he should be shooting, right?
Absolutely unbelievable. Do you read minds? Do you have access to all of the practices, Morey's analysis and coach meetings? McHale is brilliant at giving PT to the players that contribute most to a win. Heck, he even made Parsons a starter five games into his rookie campaign. And when McHale was not doing his job developing the younger players, Morey just up and traded all of the veteran power forwards. Remarkable how that worked. You know nothing about what you speak.
Maybe the fact that Daniels takes more shots per minute than anyone on the team is the reason he's getting so few minutes. There might be more to basketball than averaging 16 three point attempt per 36 minutes. To put that in perspective, only 16 teams average that many attempts for 36 minutes.
Could it possibly be that the time that Daniels got in the playoffs was McHale's version of the Hail Mary? Hmmmm?
He does have a high average, but the lesser playing time came first and it was then that he chucked a bunch of 3s during garbage time in the Lakers and Spurs games. By comparison his preseason stats where he was in regular rotation had him shooting more like 11 3PA over the same average. Still a lot, but he was making 40% and that is really why hes in the NBA in the first place. He isn't playing because Terry not only provides similar shooting, but more experience, better defense, and can run the point. That's more important when Harden and/or Howard are on the floor.
this is exactly why advanced stats don't apply in situations like this. if people actualyl watch the games daniels has been playing mostly in garbage time, so 3's are going to get put up trying to get on the board. its been said before as long as terry is playing and producing then daniels pt will be limited and inconsistent
Given that Troy was not really part of the rotation, I doubt it. If you want to know who McHale's talking about. Just look at who was a young player last season, and no longer on the team this season. That list is: Chandlers Parsons, Jeremy Lin, Omri Casspi, and Jordan Hamilton. He probably wasn't talking about Lin since Lin was so gunshy, Hamilton and Casspi barely played...
mchale needs to give him playing time. we dont have many options, off to a great start to the season. it wouldnt hurt to give him 10min a few games. esp last game with everyone chucking threes, he should've been out there earlier
Daniels should be playing in games like tonight when no one else can find their shot. Good thing we won.
They should send him to RGV to keep in shape and get his shot back. Because we are fine, with Harden, Terry and Cisco as a 3rd option for the time being. DD
The guys who were bricking shots were playing defense, even Terry. You want Daniels to brick shots and not play defense?
he needs minutes! when the team is shooting terri-bad from three, he should get in there. give him a few shots, he makes them keep him in, if not its no big deal.
people might have over rated him a bit because he can hit threes, it is all he does. If he is struggling with his shot, then there is no use having him in the game
