Well we are off to a rather cold start to Winter this year. We are not even half way through November and we are looking at freezing temps likely to occur tomorrow night into Friday morning. Areas north of the I-10 corridor could see temps below freezing for 4-7 hours! That will kill potted plants so bring them inside. Interesting to note; there is a short wave approaching from the west that may give Central Texas and NW counties of SE Texas some sleet/ice. Here is the latest WPC Probabilistic Precipitation Guidance for this event through 24 hours: Spoiler Time will tell but it certainly looks to be quite a good set up this year for cold air and precipitation over running cold air. As long time Houstonians know, when this occurs, the likelihood of snow/ice storms rise in Texas and our area.
No. It is more than likely going to be a steady and cold winter, not a harsh "stormy" one. Look it up, yo.
LOVE IT. Makes it feel more like the holidays. Wearing shorts and a t-shirt on Thanksgiving/Christmas blows.
I'm told it still won't be as cold as last winter, but last winter kinda snuck up on us so I'm not too convinced they know what they're talking about. November was supposed to be warmer than average until I got an uh-oh email from meteorology at the beginning of the month that we were going to get all this cold air after all. At least they called it ahead of time, but we really can't forecast that far into the future. Last winter was historic, though, so not much chance of matching it this year.
Feeling festive right now! Love this weather. However, I hated it this past January when my son was born. I had a serious cabin fever and wanted to be out and enjoy outdoors. Cold and dreary, nope not a good walking weather.
I think that is to be determined. Models often fail show accurate surface temperatures on their runs. Usually it is colder than they anticipate. The best thing to look at is how thick is the snow pack up North. If Canada down into the plains have a thick snow pack a lot of this Winter then you can bet it will be just a cold, if not colder than last year. I have no doubt the fronts will be here and often. This is 2 weeks out so nobody can take it serious but some of the models have an even stronger blast coming in here around the Thanksgiving time frame. Time will tell. Nobody can predict Winter in Texas like they can up North.
The only thing we CAN predict is that if it falls below 40 degrees and there's even a HINT of precipitation, the ENTIRE CITY will shut down.* *Which is fine with me
