Coincidence or are our backup big men not a threat?

What needs to be done is probably leave Dmo in the starting unit with the starters and bring Jones off the bench. Need some more energy off the bench and I am thinking Papa, Jones, and Terry could bring plenty with Isiah also getting minutes. I really hate Dmo off the bench because he doesn't really bring any scoring punch at all.

Dorsey and tarik black aren't what we need. They are undersized with low verticals

Rockets shoulda kept Greg Smith, because Greg Smith was better than all our current backup centers and power forwards.

Who cares? Who backed up Hakeem?

I mean we are talking what? 12 minutes a game when Howard is not out there?

    We can survive 12 minutes.

I fail to see the pertinence to this discussion. Isn't just clamping down on defense every bit as productive as offense? Few care enough to investigate Black's and D-Mo's shut down defense. Of course Morey and the coaching staff will be all over it. Perhaps the Rockets are better off cultivating a culture of second team lock down defense. The starters score enough for both units.

If Morey was aware he would have made an incremental add at PF after signing someone like a Kyle Lowry who wanted to play here instead of torpedo all of that to embarrassingly go after the likes of Carmelo, who doesn't even fit here. He would have traded Asik the minute after Dwight signed to bolster the roster and try to improve a team that ended up winning 54 games, rather than holding out until he 'won' the trade to his satisfaction.

I would be nice to find a new Mutombo for this squad. Jermaine O'neal, where art thou?

He is not the sole reason but a team cannot survive 12 minutes. They can make 3 runs in 12 minutes.

What if Dwight is sick (like tonite), in foul trouble, or gets injured (knock on wood)?

We always need reliable back-up. Bench is very important for a contender.

The bench is helpful. No doubt. At the same time no one remembers Hakeem, Shaq, etc's backup because the standards Should be lowered. If you have a top center who is hurt your replacement should be at best a 30-40 ranked player at their position. Nothing to see here.

It really, really hurt that both starting bigs were out. I feel Rox could have won if just Jones was able to play tonight but with Jones already injured and Howard suddenly getting the flu, the Rox are just too thin with the back up bigs to overcome that.

I never understand why people would say, "Since we have the stars, so backup don't matter." It does matter.

    Jeff Teague kind of guy

Take a closer look at Marcus Mookie Morris and even Patterson (do not know how he is doing)

The above mentioned can stretch the floor for Dwight or the backup C
And while they are at it bring back Hayes.

Rockets should have signed Al Jefferson or Paul Milsap.
