Nothing really to debate or discuss, but I feel like based on content along, it shouldn't be in the hangout.

    Also, people suck.

I read that it was the Mayor & his wife who ordered the execution. Seems the Mayor was kinda pissy about the students protesting during his wifes speech so he enlisted the local gang to 'take care of it.'

Yes, and the police was in on it, too. What a hellhole.

    Humanity gonna humanity.

I am reading Steinbeck's "Log from the Sea of Cortez," an amazing book. He has a passage about treating humanity as we do when we observe other species. Then you start to understand that killing and war are part of who we are, that it will always happen as long as we are a species. Bleak but profoundly supported by all evidence.

I read a story recently about how more Americans have been killed by Mexican drug cartels in the past 10 years than any foreign war, terrorism and Ebola combined. It seems as if any time anyone mentions Mexico, people in America just laugh it off when it is a much more immediate and closer threat than something like ISIL or other foreign terrorism.

All the more puzzling is that in areas like Texas which is right on the border there is more fear of overseas terrorism than from Mexican drug cartels which can be even more brutal than anything we have seen from the Middle East or Africa.

This is probably D&D material, but just wondering why more people don't really seem to care what is going on with the neighbors to the South.

I actually agree with you Mr. Brightside. The brutality in Mexico is unbelievable.

Such a shame - such a beautiful country. We want to go on vacation there sometime soon anyway - Tulum or Punta Mitre. I guess it is still relatively safe for tourists.

Most areas are safe for tourists but you can still expect hijinks.... My daughter (2 years old at the time) had her swim suit and sand bucket stolen from outside the door of our hotel there.

The brutality of the cartels is crazy. We need to take mar1juana out of their hands as a trade. They will still have the hard drugs but it would hurt them.

Highly recommend Puerto Morelos. Best food I have ever had at a couple different places and only about 45 min from Cancun. Going there in Feb.

we're privileged to live in the EEUU, where politicians, no matter which political leanings they have, will always respect us.

There was a story a couple of weeks ago where a blogger had organized a movement to report all shady activity in her district, and the cartel had her killed, displaying her mutilated body as the icon for her social media accounts. too many similar stories.

I don't know what can be done in mexico, maybe a rise by the zapatista guerrillas again but you really can't trust anyone there, it seems.

Could have been stolen. However, the hotel probably has a rule about leaving crap laying around. And it was tossed.

I'm at a vacation rental now, and there is a rule here that says if you leave anything other than your shoes on the patio, it will be removed. My girlfriend pointed this out as I was hanging the towel over the rail. Seemed like kind of a silly rule at the time. Then, later that day, we drove by an apartment complex and one apartment had a Broncos banner hanging over the rail and another had a Chiefs banner hanging over their rail. Then, it all came together for me. Apparently, I'm slow.

Now, back to the thread. People are bad, mmmkay.

Because cartels don't necessarily hate the United States. They just want to make money. I think people are scared of both in border towns, but in general, I think they know cartels can't be as careless on this side. They don't need
The U S. on their backs for something of this magnitude.

I feel so bad for the people of Mexico. I used to live in San Diego (6-7 years ago) about 10 miles from the border and would visit Tijuana a few times a month. Literally 100's of visits with out a whiff of trouble.

Anyway, there are bad (and I mean REALLY BAD) people every where in the world, it's just that many of those bad people in Mexico are in the government providing a haven for evil. Like I said, I feel bad for the people of Mexico who are as a whole very decent and gracious people.

I saw a post on my FB page the other day about members of the cartel pretty much brutality chop up and killed 5 women. And when I mean BRUTAL.. it was just horrible to watch how they kill another human like their life means nothing.

Something has to be done about them down there, it's sick what they are doing. I would ask what is the Army doing... but corruption has taken over down there.
