Richard Jefferson sucks! EG will end up being better. Only reason Jefferson has done better so far is cuz he was playing with the best PG in the NBA. I say again, EG will end up being better.

I have said at least 5 times that we didnt draft Jefferson. We selected him for New Jersey. We only traded picks. Each team selected their own players. From what I understand from others in the know, that we never intended to pick Jefferson.

We only drafted RJ because the Nets told us to do so. Geez people. Enough with those comparisons.

    Hindsight is 20/20.

How the hell were we to know that Jefferson would be the man?

We were going to pick up Troy Murphy, who in all fairness, has shown more to me than Jefferson.

He has a nice shot, he is a great defender , and he isn't playing along side Jason Kidd.

Granted if we would have never traded away Richard Jefferson for Eddie Griffin we would have probably been better off in the 01/02 season, but that would have also meant that we would have never been able to draft that 7'5" guy who plays center for us. So the moral of the story is you can't look back and "if" yourself to death, just be happy about the wonderful talent we already have in place and that the Rockets organization has some awesome people in charge who have probably forgoten more basketball than we even know.

You know what the problem is verse? Switch RJ's name with EG and this post would still be true. His jumper is suspect (or he has none), he just can't handle the ball, he cannot create his own shots and I'll give credit for his athleticism. As far as upside goes, that's subjective as supposed to objective. On thing that is for sure though, RJ came to play and wants to win. I guess I would feel better if EG smokes on the court instead of smokes weed.

Let's us not talk about this please.
Have we not traded for Griffin we might not have a chance for Yao as well. So, let's not discuss this.

It was a trade that made alot of sense at the time. But some people are selling RJ short.

You forgot 4) He was in the NBA finals and got mugged on every drive, but I like how he responded in the late finals games, he's got heart and his mind will develop just like the jumpshot.

EG's numbers are similar to guys like Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry, two guys from his draft class who are supposed to be 'developing nicely.'

EG shouldn't be held to a higher standard because Jefferson was a more developed prospect out of college and went to a team with the best PG in the league.

if jefferson was on a team that was half-court based, say ... Spurs or Lakers, no way would he be as successful as he is.
the Nets plays to his strength, which is run-run-run. i don't see the fascination with the guy, i mean, the league chose him as an Olympian over the likes of Finley, Francis, and others more deserving.

the NBA has a way of promoting individuals that are non-deserving, i.e. Richard Jefferson, Darius Miles, etc...

If you draft somebody number 1 or if you traded first round picks for somebody, you better hold that somebody to a higher standard. Besides, are you saying Chandler and Curry's supporting cast is better than EG's? Playing on the Chicago Bulls, the other team actually have to guard them. When's the last time somebody put a body on EG? If he also plays on the Bulls then your post would make a bit more sense.

It occurs to me that since this is the eve of Draft Day 2003, this thread is a result of TWO YEARS of sour grapes.

I think it's time to get over it and move on.

The way things are going, it may just result in a little something to talk about tomorrow if Eddie gets shipped tonight.

I still think we should give Van Gundy a chance to whip him into shape, however...

Who cares. This is all hindsight. Complain all you want. If we had kept Jefferson that year, we'd probably had had a better year, and we may not have made the lottery. Hence, we may not have Yao Ming now. Stop complaining. I"m sick of these hindsight threads.
