I could care less if Yao got into the "in-crowd" or not. If this was related to Yao, believe me, I would posted it in the Rockets GARM forum. Theory thrown out the window..

All i'm saying is these NBA legends who are supposed to have more class than that are worse than the media in overhyping this kid. Do you think they really know how he's going to do in the league? Sure they might have seen him work out or play in some summer camp with other high school kids. Hell, he might have even doine a private workout with some NBA teams. Point is, it's sad to see people you grew up respecting and looking up to acting like such money grubbing popularity-contest seeking- latest trend gotta having- hangers-on to a little rich high school kid who hasn't even proven anything to the rest of the league--and the rest of the world. They can do the "been there done that, go-to-guy" sort of thing..but what does that have to do with Lebron? Is he the go-to-guy for Cleveland? Sure there's talk he might play point guard but has he actually done it? Is anyone even sure he's going to even make a huge impact in his first year? I bet there's decent vegas odds on that one.

My guess is they are scouting out a potential competitor.

Friendships with a loud SUCKING sound in the background isn't exactly quite right.

To help the guy out, pretty simple. Why does Bill Walton suck up to Yao?

Bill walton is a tv guy, he does interviews. You're comparing apples to oranges. I'm talking about Magic, Shaq, and Michael, not has-beens like Bill Walton. The three aforementioned guys have money, power, and prestige (albeit declining) yet they're trying to sink their claws into LeBron just like his hometown posse. Big difference. All this before he even plays his first NBA minute....if that's not trying to get a piece of the action then what is? Next, you gonna tell me those guys watched his high school games in person so they know he's the real deal? Riiiight. Lebron might be the next big thing, but he's nowhere close and will most likely not live up to the hype or even come close to changing the game like Magic and Michael and Shaq did...don't those guys have more pride than that? It's like they fear LeBron is gonna surpass them or something...which at this stage of his not-even-started-career is P-A-T-H-E-T-I-C.

I bet Jordan was thinking new spokesman for Jordan brand. Shaq was thinking future teammate. Magic was thinking..hell who knows what he was thinking.

I don't think any of the players are "sucking up," the media is the one riding his jock. They are just trying to guide him and give him advice. The NBA isn't in the worst of situations, but a new superstar could really help, and perhaps they just want to make sure he doesn't waste his talent and potential.

It's getting pretty old listening to everyone ride lebron's d!ck. he is a freaking high schooler. they are acting like he is going to revolutionize the whole entire game and they are treating him as if there has never been another player as good as him drafted.

the sad thing is if Lebron fails miserably the media will do a complete 180 and eat him alive... but then if that happened I wouldn't be that sorry for him... hes got millions of reasons to comfort him.

somehow I doubt that, the media is far too deep in this one. The hypage on this story is UNPRECEDENTED. I think heads would have to roll all around the media circus if LBJ busts, starting at Nike.
