I've been working at Vacation Bible School this week. One of the other adult volunteers in my group is Rusty LaRue (Wake Forest, Chicago Bulls, Utah Jazz and Varese). Yeah, Varese... he played with that big Russian kid, Podkolzin (the guy's only listed as 7'1" on their roster last year!), that pulled out of the draft. I'll have to ask Rusty about him tomorrow. Seriously. Rusty. Heady player. Career 46% 3-PT shooter at Wake Forest. We even have the same birthday.... It might help us lure Tim Duncan from the Spurs.... Why not Rusty? RustyLaRue.com
They are posted on his site. As I understand them, he played in 78 NBA games across 4 different NBA seasons (97-98, 98-99 and 99-00 with Chicago and 01-02 with Utah). Of those 78 games, he started only 7. Here are his overall NBA numbers with very limited minutes: Points Per Game 5.1 Rebounds/Game 1.7 Assists/Game 2.0 Steals/Game .78 Shooting %ages Free Throw 85 2 Point 38 3 Point 32 Numbers aren't gaudy but I think he was used mostly as a desperation scorer a la Steve Kerr with San Antonio. I remember seeing him hit a big shot in a playoff game for the Bulls one year. He was a member of their last (?) championship team. He was a career 45% shooter from the field at Wake Forest , 87% from the Free Throw Line, and 43% from beyond the college arc. The guy is a shooter. Frankly, I don't see what Moochie has on this guy.... but them I'm just a fan.... of Rusty LaRue.
how about no? if it came down to us HAVING no choice but to play SF at the 2...then I'd rather take my chances with moochie. At least if moochie was in a the same time with SF and Yao, he'd know to give up the ball quickly instead of dribble.
Are you sure? Isn't the dribbling thing what irks people here so? Someone here refers to him as TLD-- The Little Dribbler. I daresay that Rusty has a higher IQ (basketball and otherwise) than Moochie.
Are you kidding, Rusty Larue can't play and why would we give playing time after all. I am sure Tito Maddox is better than him and how can he lure free agent like Duncan?
Wait and see; reports are that Tito is not wanted back. Rusty and Tim Duncan were college teammates. That part was really just a joke.
I'm sure he's a nice guy serving the church and stuff.............. But he must be kinda old....it's neat that y'all even have the same birthday. I'd rather get Steve Kerr!!! And we don't need Tito. If we really need a 3rd stringer point guard.....then get Hollis Price or some guy from China or a European guy. There's plenty to choose from. Or sign a free agent point guard. His name is Rusty LaRue? When was the last time he played? He must be.......pretty rusty by now.
I could be way wrong here....but i think LaRue was actually in camp a couple of times for either the Rockets or the Bulls. He played some summer league games and was let go. He has no reason to sniff an NBA court, really.
He has been on an NBA roster for all or part of 4 seasons including the playoff roster on the Bull's last championship. Before and after he had stints in the CBA before it folded. Between his Bulls' years and his year with the Jazz he played in Russia and then the NBDL and then in Italy this past year. He just got back from his Italian season last month where he played with the big Russian (7'5") who was the talk of the draft for awhile until he pulled out. He's only 29-- with barely any wear-and-tear. Look at San Antonio's bench. They should be the Raptors-- that old crew. Maybe there is something to say for a less-talented, more reliable bench. I hope we don't keep a knucklehead around like Tito apparently is when there's a capable guy like Rusty LaRue ready to ride the pine, pick up 8 minutes here or there when needed, and be a standout lockerroom guy. Sometimes talent alone just isn't the solution.
Rusty Lawho? Sorry, him playing for the Jazz ruined him for me. BTW, what kind of dork goes to bible study for vacation?
Isn't vengeance a sin? Just messin' with you. Actually, Rusty did play some good minutes for those damn Jazz last year in that first round series against the Kings, but I'd still rather not see him in a Rockets uniform.
I have no means or desire to wreak vengeance upon you my son! A ban would be discipline not vengeance... I'm just pointing out that you were a bit too hard-edged and personal in your insult with no reason or provocation. Better to wade in a little more slowly and insult someone when there is a really, really good reason to do so. Carry on. Vote for Rusty.
Are you serious? Wow, that is crazy. Why don't we get John Crotty? I'd rather have Moochie with one arm. This is so funny I don't even know what to say.
ven-geance n. - Infliction of punishment in return for a wrong committed; retribution. Sounds like vengeance to me. C'mon man, WWJD.
If my memory is right, wasn't Randolph Childress Duncan's PG at Wake? Or maybe I'm just old and senile.
Jesus would throw you out of the Temple on your arse like a money-changer. That's what Jesus would do. That is a ban, man. Vengeance has a certain decimating connotation that doesn't come through in your Webster's Junior Dictionary. Ever heard of an all-out smiting? or lightining? Language is alive.
I think they may have overlapped, but when Wake got to the Great Eight in Duncan's senior year before losing to Kentucky, I think, Childress was gone. He was a stud who never did much in the NBA-- couldn't figure that one out. LaRue and Duncan may have been in the same class. I'll check it sometime.
