Did anyone see the show tonight?

Great show. Definitely ALL Jack White. Great guitar, great music, great lyrics, great voice. Meg's simple drumming kinda got on my nerves. Throw in a fill every once in a while!! :D

All in all its a good act. If anything its refreshing music in the otherwise mundane "alternative" music scene right now...

Man, I must be stupid but I don't see what the big deal is with this band. Granted, I've only seen them on Conan and I don't have any of their music but from what I saw, they just seem like a gimic band. Are there just 2 of them? No bass? I've got 6th grade students that play better than that girl on the drums. She is just GOD AWFUL.

    Will someone please explain?

Listen to their CDs...they were awful on Conan. Those performances aren't really what they can really do.

    Dammit, I missed the show.

Yes, they are part gimmick band, but also, the singer really is a pretty good song writer. His lyrics are usually pretty funny and he's a capable guitarist.

Basically, it's the song writing that make them an okay band, definitely not the musicianship.

Like I said, its all Jack White in this band. You could put a monkey on drums and it wouldnt matter. The dude is super talented in all aspects of songwriting and musicianship.

I trust the musical taste of the people on this board, so I'll give them a try. I'll pirate...er, uh..."sample" some of their songs from Kaaza tonight. :D

    Any suggestions?

    I enjoyed it very much!

Fast songs were slowed down, slow songs were sped up.
Keyboards played where guitars are usually.

They played a remake of that old Suixsie & Banshies song (i think hers) "Joline".

Lots of Slide. Lots of distortion.

F*cking Jack White is pretty damn talented. Drewdog is right in saying it was all Jack White! They dont need no stinking bassist!

oh and hey, sure Meg White aint no Neil Pert on the drum kit but she definately didn't play like a wuss! I mean she pounded those drums...even if it was just a 1-2-3-4 beat!:D
Did anyone notice she would play with one arm behind her back ALOT? Kinda funny i guess...

Definitely all about Jack White, who looked like he was channeling The Vampire Lestat but dressed in red.....sweet show...Very funny. I also dug when he stopped the song until the crowd surfing ended, bc I was getting popped by those a-holes.

Oh yeah! During "We are gonna be friends" didn't he kinda fit into the melody "I'm gonna stop playing until you get off the people in the front" or something like that?!

    Good one!:D

*Bad Brains did sorta the same thing years ago, cept they just started a mellow skanky reggae beat until everyone stopped moshing.
    I don't mosh either!

They absolutely are not a gimmick band. Slipknot is a gimmick band. The Stripes just happen to be two kids who like putting on a good show. I'd rather see that than see Puddle of Mudd look like they just got back from a fishing trip.

white stripes work best about 2 in the morning after some good beers. And I mean that non-sarcastically.

Well, there were all the rumors about the two bandmates being married, but they would say they're sister and brother and never really cleared anything up. They call themselves Jack White and Meg White. They always wear the same clothes (white and red). While none of that neccesarily makes them a "gimmick band," it does make them...uh... kind of gimmicky (if that's a word).

Basically, they haven't gotten so popular simply because of their music.
