Over his career he's been solidly below average, but this year he's a lot closer to average than before. If you call him average, he's on the bottom side of average, if you call him below average, he's on the top side of below average.
Thanks for those who answered the question. Most of the take from this is: * meltdown about Fitz and Russell Wilson * whether the Texans believe Mallett would do better based on the fact they're not starting him yet * this thread sucks because you titled it wrong * the Texans suck every year OK, sorry about the sucky thread (one star, though? damn y'all are a tough crowd). And while I *do* realize that the entire body of work effects any given year and we're paying the price for dumb drafting, cap decisions, etc. from years past, I wanted to hear from folks what they thought the big problems were this year (including what we've inherited). Is that so bad? Thanks for those who've responded to the initial question; I am sorry if it shouldn't have been a thread at all. Though I am legitimately interested in the discussion as to how much they suck versus how much is just adjusting to a new system. The poll was just an attempt at fun; apologies for it also sucking.
Sorry, Bobby. It occurs to me I totally did misconstrue where you were coming from. And sorry, msn, for derailing your thread. Count me among those who don't think the Texans suck; in fact, I'd argue they're just good enough to be crushingly disappointing.
