He's awesome for a guy who didn't start playin PG till his first year in the NBA, of all times to start. Not every team has to have a traditional point guard to be successful. Yes he should be our PG cause he's a little small to be guarding guys like Tmac and Kobe. He isn't called The Franchise for nuthin, the guy we would want leading the team on the floor is someone good enough to be called The Franchise.

i thought they called him "franchise" just cause it went with "francis". he certainly has done nothing to actually EARN that name.

    "franchise"

I think Francis will dominate the ball from either guard position, so you may as well leave him at the point.

what do you mean? i thought every team these days has a franchise? i mean, all it takes to "earn" the name is zero post-season appearances and a 3:2 assist to turnover ratio!

seriously though, shouldnt "franchise" players be able to lead "the greatest team ever assembled" into the playoffs? shouldnt franchise players be able to lead "average" teams to the playoffs?

steve is no "franchise" and he is no leader.

Are you considering we changed our way of thinking last season when we selected Yao Ming with our #1 pick. If we are going to develop the team arround Yao Ming then we need a Playmaker Point Guard. If we are not, then we need to trade Yao Ming as quickly as possible and make our way, the best we can, with a Guard oriented team.

How could this be? As a Shooting Guard he would rely upon a Playmaker Point Guard to pass the ball. If we are going to develop the Big Man Game then Yao Ming would get most of the first passes. So Francis would not dominate the ball if he was playing Shooting Guard!

With this talk of Stevie at PG i thought it might be good idea to do a comparison between him and Starbury.

    Steve Francis:
    PPG 21.0
    RPG 6.2
    APG 6.2
    SPG 1.74
    BPG .51
    FG% .435
    FT% .800
    3P% .354
    MPG 41.0

    Stephon Marbury:
    PPG 22.3
    RPG 3.2
    APG 8.1
    SPG 1.33
    BPG .25
    FG% .439
    FT% .803
    3P% .301
    MPG 40.0

    So the questions are:
1/Who is the more "ideal" PG?
2/With both being captain, who has better leadership skills?

    Who cares???

There are plenty of thread on this subject. This is strictly about Steve and the Rockets. We are not getting Marbury so what is the point of those questions??

I was hoping to get ppl's ideas on each's strong and weak points, especially as leaders, so as to get more of an idea on how Stevie can improve his game and the Rox.
I don't know why but I get the feel Marbury, as gay as he is, is a betta leader than the francise last year.

If the Rox can somehow pickup TJ Ford or Heinrich or maybe a solid veteran PG via trade, then I say NO. If they can't, I say YES.

Don't blame Francis for everything. He probably hasn't really earned trhe nickname Franchise, but just think, where would we be without him? Probably a lot worse off.

Unless the Rockets can get a true 1, it's a moot point talking about moving Francis to the 2.

For the sake of debate, I think Francis can play either the 1 or 2 but the 1 may be better suited for him.

While he is not a pure 1, he is not a pure 2 either.
A pure SG is a great jump shooter who moves without the ball, runs thru picks, who catches, shoots, drives or gets rid of the ball quickly. Francis really does not do those things well.
We will be requiring him to do something he might be good at but not great.

On the other hand, taking the ball out of his hand will reduce his multi-faceted offensive game into a 1 dimensional one. From a SG position, he will drop from 6 assists/ game to maybe 2 or 3. To come out ahead on the total assist production at the 1+2, our new PG has to get 8+ assists/ game. Not easy to find.

Those plus the fact that opposing SG will torch him at the other end makes it hard to move him.
