I went into the dealership planning on getting Outback and ultimately went with Forester, in large part, because the Outback felt like it was sitting too low.

Thanks for all the input, guys. Everyone I know that's had a Subaru loves them, and that's evident here too. I'll go with her to the dealer one of these days & check them out.

Just in case she decides to go bigger, anyone have any experience with a new Tahoe or Explorer/Expedition? What about Toyotas?

We love our Explorer. Let me know if you go Ford route, I may be able to get you a discount of some sort through the wife's dad.

I had a 2013 BRZ Limited and for a $30k vehicle, I expected more. The interior trim was Honda Civic like quality and I had a lot of issues with my vehicle. So many that I got rid of it a year and a half after owning it.

Issues I had were, transmission shifts were notchy (not sure if it was bad syncros or what), navigation/radio would reset randomly (at some point it happened nearly every day), headlight is cheap plastic (lots of tiny scratches, although I used a microfiber towel to wash it), front bumper was misaligned and dealership refused to fix it, sometimes the car wouldn't start (had to try multiple times with the push button start), couldn't open both the windows at the same time with the push button (only one would go down, not both), and there was a few others. Couldn't remember them all, but yea...wasn't too happy with my first experience with a Subaru.

I'm sorry for your loss, you doing okay after the accident (assuming you were in it)? How was the Z4? I think that's another reason why I wanted to get rid of the BRZ, tiny trunk space.

If your mom gets a forester, she might as well get some birkenstocks. Apparently, foresters are the preferred choice of lesbians.

Subarus are great cars, but I don't know if they are up for towing?

I owned a Honda Pilot for several years and it was great - 6 cylinders with economy function where it drops to 4 cylinders on the highway. We used to get 20MPG in the city and up to 25 highway. Great mid size SUV, and it comes in both 4WD and 2WD.

Why does she want 4WD? Waste of money unless driving offroad or in the snow, and uses more fuel too.

I had a Pilot as a rental for a couple weeks before and I was pretty impressed. The only problem is that it is pretty bland looking.
