    Is he making it up?!?

A return to Dallas?!? That would be horrible for the NBA!!!

Nash is worth Kidd? Who else would they give up to get Kidd?

I hope Kidd stays in New Jersey. He's got a nice bunch of guys.
And hopefully Jermaine O'Neal stays in Indiana.

If Mark Cuban wants Jason Kidd......then he will get him.

I would take Jason Kidd over Nash anyday. Nash is a great player and all, but Kidd is better. A lot better.

And how would he offset the BYC implications of Kidd's deal?

Cuban just trying to spoil other trades. If SA wants Kidd, they'll get him, and Dallas won't co*k-block'em.

I dont think even the bandwagoning Mavs fans will argue about Nash being better then Kidd. Everybody knows Kidd is the best true pg in the game today.

However, like cabbage said, the Dallas offense relies on the outside shooting of Nash. And his passing skills aren't exactly bad either. They need a big guy, not a guard. I would pass on this deal if I was Dallas.

Can Dallas afford a Max contract? I thought they were already over their budget

I don't think Kidd would be as effective in Dallas offense as Nash is now. The pick and shoot that Dallas does puts a premium on someone who can shoot like Nash. If I'm NJ and really think Kidd wants to go, I would do it. As good as Kidd is, I don't see a team in the west where he could really put one team over the top. Remember in the west , he never made it past the 2nd rd of the playoffs and got knocked out in the 1st rd a couple of times.

I also think that the trade is not good for Dallas. While Kidd is a better player overall, he is not head and shoulder above Nash. And Nash is younger. How many years can Kidd give Dallas? Kidd will retire when Dirk is still in his prime.

Nash is a decent passer, good in transition, and a better scorer than Kidd. Kidd won't upgrade the Dallas offense too much. The only significant improvement might be defense and rebounding. But those things are better addressed at the front court positions.

Kidd will suck in Dallas. The dude cannot shoot. Dallas has lots of really good shooters. They need someone to bang inside, not a PG who can pass.

Kidd would be awesome in Houston though...

You forgot Kidd's most valuable asset, "He makes others around him better".

He is by far the best floor general in the NBA right now. I don't believe Nash will ever be as good as Kidd simply because Nash is already starting to break down from exhaustion at this early stage of his career.

works well for New Jersey though, better than spurs slops in a S&T (aside from Parker and Manu)

from NJ perspective, what else would you have them throw in???

    Raef or NVE???

My assumption is also that Kidd changes the whole Dallas game plan. For the better. The offense would revolve around Kidd. Who is your new best player and MVP. So you play to his strengths. Which is making everyone else better and getting close range shots (or free throws). And that includes the big men. Nash is the type of player who can get to the basket but sometimes get's lost in the trees. While Jason kidd is going to finish that play on pure strength. I still believe to this day that the FT is the most important play. And that's what Jason kidd delivers to everyone. Lot's of FT's. No stats to back it up tho :)

Kidd won't take anyone to a championship. If he's your best player, you won't win one. He handles the ball too much for someone who can't beat you with his scoring. Your best player must be unstoppable, and Kidd isn't. Great players don't need people to set them up, and that's all Kidd does, set up other players.

I do agree, it would be difficult to win a championship with Kidd as your number 1 option and best player. That is the exact reason why he should not stay in New Jersey.

With the Spurs/Mavs, Kidd is obviously not the best players on those teams offensively. So, Kidd's job would be to 1) get as many fast break points as possible 2) feed the ball to Duncan/Dirk 3) Set up and create plays for the other players.

Sounds, like a championship formula to me.

I thought Dirk and Nash were joined at the hip.

This is yet another dumba** speculative article by a reporter who needed to put something out before his deadline. Jason Kidd is NOT what the Mavs need to win a championship. They need to get rid of Shawn Bradley's sorry a** as well as Rafe LaFrenz and Evan Eshmeyer. Then they need to get a true big man who plays BIG. Last time I looked that was NOT Jason Kidd.

However, as a Rockets fan, this would be a GREAT trade because it would mean that the Mavs still haven't addressed their true area of need. The Rockets would still have the inside advantage over them with Yao.

Marc Stein, whether you agree with him or not, has followed the Mavs for many years and is ESPN's featured NBA writer. He has some credibility.

And who's to say one move is all they'll make? That's not something Cuban's ever done since he bought the team, and he full well knows what the team needs in the post. They do have a midcap exception and can trade those players.

Any trade that makes a competitor better is not good for the Rockets, for one because Dallas would improve their point guard spot (albeit slightly) with Kidd, and for another because it's not the only move they can make!

You have to look at the entire picture before blasting something.

Nash is a big part of the Mavs and I can't see him being traded even for Kidd. As most have already noted, the Mavs don't need Kidd. They need a guy who can give them a physical presence in the paint to complement Dirk Nowitski.
