Not weighing in on whether Ariza is a better overall player than Parsons, but your post assumes Parsons is being paid commensurate with his worth. I think you'd have a hard time finding many people who would agree.
Parsons didn't get a max deal because he was better. He got one because Cuban saw that as the only way to screw the Rocket. With the cap space. Dallas had Lance Stevenson set on a $9 mil a year deal but couldn't do it after we didn't match Parsons.
maybe in a video game your argument would be true. in real life, if you chart contract value with performance you will go crazy.
Because players always get contracts equal to the on court worth..... Signed Amare Stoudamire Co-signed Kobe Bryant Triple Co-signed Joe Johnson
With Parsons now being the highest paid player on their team, then that makes Parsons better than Dirk. Mavs better get another jersey ready to hang in the rafters. Move over Dirk.
Ariza may well do better than Parsons, but it is dangerous to think that "results are clear" in the preseason. Kelvin Cato has millions of dollars to prove it.
You guys did not get it. My point is not about whether contract is truly the on court performance. The fact is that Parsons had teams willing to sign him with max contract, Ariz did not. If Ariz is a better player, as many of you believed, then Ariz should get much better contract.
Would you rather have a player from ages 25-29 (CP) or ages 29-33 (TA)? Age also plays a factor in contract money as well as potential. CP is younger with more potential. You know what you get with Ariza...and I think CP is better and has more upside, hence the bigger contract. However, as far as value goes, as in productivity vs. salary, Ariza all day. CP will prove to the world that he is not a max player...unless he turns into a chucker on a lottery team
That's way oversimplifying things. So many things could affect what sort of contract a player gets. In this case it's age, potential, contract length, trying to screw your competitor, etc.
I think it was Carroll Dawson, and I think he got this contract after a preseason game in which he almost got a quadruple double.
Exactly. Look at Chandler Parsons production in light of when we were paying him in beans. The $-to-work ratio made him look like an all-star in comparison. But taking that same skill set, exchange those beans for gold? Suddenly he's overrated.
