J Reynolds of ESPN radio reported that Shaq asked L.A. for a trade. L.A. dismissed his request as just venting.

I heard this about 2am driving home...the plot thickens.

    HOOOOOOOOOLY.

If you were LA and IF you had to trade one of the two... which one would you?

    In other words:

    If I would could you?

That's a tough question, but I think Shaq would have to stay.

I know, he's older (almost 29) than Kobe, there's the Hack-a-Shaq thing, and he's got a mother of a contract.

But we're looking at a guy that is shaping into a big man possibly more dominant over the span of his career than Hakeem was (sorry). I'm pretty sure the Lakers could still contend for the title for a few years with Shaq minus Kobe. I'm not so sure based on one monster season that Kobe could do the same thing.

Shaq needs to grow up and shut up.

He also needs to fricken practice his free throws. Underhanded would work for him, if he has the sack to try it.

I hear Shaq has stepped up his defense lately to prove himself the leader. Last night he blocked 7 shots, and 5 of them where Kobes.

    --Jay Leno last night

Seriously though, Kupchack said there is no way the Lakers trade either one; they are just going to have to get along.

    btw...wrong forum!

Underachieving or not shaq is the best basketball player in this league, so I would keep shaq. However Phil would keep Kobe. He likes guards and the triangle is tailored for guards.

In response to DaDakota, I think he did try it underhand for a little while.

    I knew this would happen
The lakers are off pace Kobe is jacking shots
    and everyone is Blaming Shaq

I for one happen to think he is right.
Last year they won a championship.
No one can hold him in the post.
14 shots for Shaq versus 25+ for Kobe?
esp when Shaq has the higher percentage shot.

Hack a Shaq may hurt Shaq but it helps the team.
Fouling fools out. . . making sure they shoot
free throws for 60% of every quarter

If Shaq becomes the Black hole that Kobe was
I bet folx would complain too.

    'Kota . . . I think Shaq has a legitimate Gripe

Maybe he should work it out in practice
    or in the lockerroom.

His game will slip becuase when you don't get
the ball in the O . . .your intensity for the D
    is lessened.

I think I would trade everyone BUT Steve Francis
for SHAQ [Yes regrettably this includes the
Dream and Cuttino, hell maybe even Rudy :)]

Actually Kobe is the one that has to grow up and shut up, he started the whole mess with his ego trip. Kobe hasn't proven A THING! Yeah he has a championship, but Shaq was the best player in the league last year andin the playoffs. Shaq has been to the Finals twice. Kobe needs to stop jacking up shots, freezing Shaq out of the offense, and worrying about THE TEAM, and not worry about his own image.

Without a doubt, if you trade one it would be Kobe. When you trade Bryant, you can get another superstar to fill his spot just fine: maybe Iverson, or Carter or whoever. If you trade Shaq, who can you get to fill his spot? An Iverson-Bryant backcourt may sound pretty damn cool, but you'd have zero inside game.

    Hey, JuanValez:

Would an Iverson-Bryant backcourt edge out the Francis-Mobely backcourt for the last playoff spot in the West?

No inside game going on either place. Didn't Hakeem say he wouldn't mind backing up Shaq? Would it be in Houston or LA?

Inside outside game has a bigger % of winning when you have a dominant center Ex.. our own hometown heroes.... it just creates lots of things that otherwise could not be done.
