There are two kinds of [animals] who are staying on this [planet]: those who are dead and those who are going to die. Now let's get the hell out of here.
Well, I was hunted once. I'd just came back from 'Nam. I was hitching through Oregon and some cop started harassing me. Next thing you know, I had a whole army of cops chasing me through the woods! I had to take 'em all out--it was a bloodbath!
52% decline in animal population. 87% increase in human population. I will say this, we really are pretty high maintenance as an animal species.
~350 million people take up more than 25% of the world's resources. Whoops... I think the world could handle a lot more except a lot of them would be expecting cars, houses, and ACs too.
That's what I was thinking. Without looking at data, my guess is the world population has at least doubled since 1970. If you plotted the population curves of both I bet they mirror each other. Although one could argue that we are animals and that only diversity in the animal kingdom has decreased. The Earth has and is supporting more life than ever before.
More human life plus whatever we grow...and that's it. But life in general? It takes more and more life to support the top of the food chain.
Most poke jokes but there isn't much funny about killing off life like that. All life should be valued and respected.

So basically at this rate we're going to reach a point where all the animals we don't eat will be dead, and all the animals we do eat will be injected with hormones, force fed, mass produced and mass slaughtered to suit our tastes.
That sounds truly awful. As we pollute the water, cut down the forest, kill the animals... without the ocean, the jungle, the animals and the plants, where will be left to find beauty in the world?
