I saw Marc as a guest on TNT last night talking with Chuck and Kenny, and he seems like a solid guy with solid game who "loves to bang". 2 questions: 1. Is this guy a diamond in the rough or a one hit wonder? 2. Is there a snowballs chance in hell we can land him?????? ------------------ "Chucky who?" Charles Barkley
1. looks solid. 2. if we have the cap available, we have a great shot. he´s a free agent next year. Don´t forget that if we trade Hakeem our cap is gone, though. ------------------ "I have posted so much that what I say must be true"

I get the feeling he is a one-hit wonder. Remember Adrian Griffin who came out last season averaging a triple-double or something and by mid-season he lost his starting spot and now he's on the IL with a phantom injury (at least it sounds phantom to me). He was a rookie who had been drafted a couple of years before and played abroad and then got a break in the NBa, just like Marc Jackson. It's not that I don't think Griffin or Jackson are good players. You have to be pretty good to perform like they did for the stretches they did. But I don't think you can expect Marc Jackson to keep up his 30 and 10 just like you couldn't expect Griffin to keep up his triple doubles. Defenses adjust. I'd like to pick up Jackson is the offseason, but I wouldn't shove a ton of money down his throat. ------------------ RealGM Rockets Draft Obligations Summary Gafford Art Artisan
If i recall Juan, Griffin always showed limited offensive capabilities, and was more of a defensive stopper and rebounder than anything else. He had a nice run, as you mentioned, but nothing as outstanding as Jackson has been doing lately. That being said, i never saw the guy play. I ´m just looking at a box score, and by that, he sounds rock solid. However, i don´t think he is worth getting into a bidding war, but it sure looks like it will come to that, seeing how big men are scarce these days. ------------------ "I have posted so much that what I say must be true" [This message has been edited by Thanos (edited January 11, 2001).]
Living in the bay area I would be very surprised to see G.S. let him go. They would like to resign him, keep him as a backup to Danny Fortson and have Adonal come in every once in a while. What they would love to do though is dump Dampier. Now with that said I have no earthly idea how they plan on keeping Danny, Tawn, Marc, and Adonal happy. Jammison has already spoken out how he does not want to play the 3 when Fortson comes back. So if Jackson is going anywhere it will be in a trade. Anyhow just letting you know whats up in the west coast. ------------------ "We need to fockass".....Dream back in the day
Scarface, Jackson is a free agent at the end of the season, meaning he can go wherever he pleases. Haven´t got a clue about what they are going to do over there though. Jamison will not be pleased about a move back to the 3 when Fortson returns. And with Jackson´s numbers, it makes the logjam at the frontcourt even greater. ------------------ "I have posted so much that what I say must be true"
Well if he's going to be a free agent I don't see how G.S. is gonna keep him. Someone will lay out a decent contract for this guy that the Warriors can't meet, and promise him a starting gig. Anyone remember Ike Austin? A true center who can board and score is a rarity in the NBA. ------------------ "Thirty-seven?" -Randall, Clerks www.clutchtown.com
Jackson said that he wants to play on a team that will give him 30+ minutes per night. That's his main clause, I think he might be convinced to stay with the warriors on a 2 yr deal and then get his bird rights - simply because he's playing there now and they're giving him 30 mintues a night! As far as his skill level, sure he's a big guy who can bang, but the most impressive thing is his shooting touch, all the way out to the three point line. If you get to see him play you'll be pretty surprised at what he can do! ------------------
I live in Oakland, and I haven't heard him say anything like that at all. It would be really surprising, since he was one of the people who helped recruit Fortson to come out here in the first place. Are you sure you don't mean that you heard some idiot on talk radio say Jamison wouldn't want to go back to SF? Regarding Jackson ... in the Warriors' dream world, I think what they'd like is a Dampier/Jackson/Fortson rotation at C & PF, with Jamison occasionally playing PF in small-ball lineups and Foyle only getting spot minutes when they need a shot-blocker. In the offseason, this probably means Jackson being offered the $4M exception for as long as he wants, and perhaps a trade of Foyle. The question is, will someone offer Jackson a long-term deal starting at $5M or more? The shooting touch is certainly worth paying for, and he rebounds OK, but he's too short and too slow to defend centers. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Swopa (edited January 12, 2001).]
Swopa when Fortson went down and before Jammison had his breakout, he talked to Dave about his concerns of moving to the 3. Now that was very early on in the season and I have not heard of anything since, but I wouldn't be surprised if his stance is the same. I heard it on the Warriors Round table if your wondering where I heard it from and I almost am positive they wouldn't make anything up. ------------------ "We need to fockass".....Dream back in the day
OK, it all makes sense now ... Scarface, that was after the 2nd game of the season, and the real problem was that Cowens wasn't running any plays for Jamison, so the only shots he was getting were outside jumpers off pick-and-rolls. In the next game, Cowens ran some plays for Jamison (who was still at SF), and he scored 37. Needless to say, he's been running plays for Jamison ever since. ------------------

Swopa, I have a couple of questions for you, if you don't mind answering. 1. would you consider losing Jackson a step back for GS? 2. is Jackson really a center or more of a PF that can play center? I haven't really seen him play, so all I know about him are the numbers that he puts up. ------------------ snap crackle pop
Losing Jackson would definitely be a step back -- I mean, anyone who can score is welcome in these parts -- but not a fatal one. I think that on a good team, he's a really, really good backup C/PF, like Chris Gatling or what Ike Austin was in Miami. Position-wise, he's more of a PF that can play center ... he is 6'10", but doesn't have the long arms, vertical leap, or defensive agility to guard bigger players effectively. And he's probably too slow to thrive defensively as a starting PF. ------------------
