ive done it before...it is pretty easy. If youre using black you are going have to clean them pretty often as they lose the glossy clean look after a couple days.
I did my front grill and emblems on my trunk. Still holding up and that was over a year ago. Not sure about doing the rims.
I just did this (not myself). The person that did this for me actually recommended matte paint vs plastidip if you are not planning on peeling it off in the future. Before: After:
I did my rims myself. It help up great for a little more than a year. Its really easy as long as you do multiple layers and let each layer dry before you spray another. I think i did about 5 layers but doing more will only make it better.
I had someone do it but I watched The painter did not use plastidip although that was an option. He said that (1) it would be more expensive and (2) not as durable as paint. So I went with what he recommended which was matte paint. He had a gallon of black paint (not sure exactly what kind) and he painted the wheels right on the car with an electric paint gun. He put on several layers and everything was done and dry in 30 minutes. Total price was $200 He told me that plastidip is strong but could possibly start to peel after being pressured washed, etc...The advantage was that if you don't want it anymore you can always peel it off.
yeah I am fine with peeling. My think is when I sell this car I can pull of my Black logos and, my black grill and peel off the dip and return it to stock within an hour. When you paint the rims you have to make sure the next person wants black rims.
I love doing weird **** like this and I have a perfect set of stock polished aluminum rims to dip yo... what could possibly go wrong?
