Really? I have a 'friend' in the rockets organization too, he said he was going to give out false info to anyone just to keep the fans busy during the offseason...you probably know him too. BTW, what other legit info did he give you in the past? You would think that if someone questioned your integrity, like a couple of posters had, then you would tell them something more than..."I know some guy that listens to the rockets grapevine." And didn't you first say that it was "reports around the league."...which one is it? I'm trying to be nice Verse, but this sounds too made up to be even remotely true. We have so much BS flung at us during the offseason, personally I'd like to have 100 'would you do this trade' then 10 rumors started by lying newbies that pretend they are 'in the know' and had to run to the Clutchcity BBS and 'grace' us with his newfound knowledge. BTW, how many newbies have been right when they've told us a rumor? I can't remember one in over 2 years...is this "THE ONE" NO! ITS NEO! The matrix has us!!!!!!!
Ford's stats from last season .. 40% from the floor ? 26.5% from 3P ? 2 big reasons why Ford will be a bust in NBA We already have enough players that can't hit any shots
Ford is a hard worker, he was a bad shooter his freshmen year, but worked hard in the offseason and improved his sophmore year. Although he still is not a great shooter, he has shown that he has the motivation needed to improve. The texas team is nothing without ford, thats why he was the best or second best (with exception to melo) player in the ncaa last year. I think hinrich can play a better halfcourt game, but hopefully we might start thinking of running our offense through yao a majorith of the time next year. ford will add the extra we need by distributing the ball more to steve and the other players rather than having steve be the passer. Im new at this obviously, so please tell me if im missing something.
Check out this weeks issue of SI. It has TJ tumbling down to Golden St. at #11. It may not take as much as the Cat, someone else and a future draft pick for Miami's # 5 to get him, with all the Euros now in play.
Has it occured to anyone that one of the things the Heat really need is a good PG? Too many of you are fooling yourselves into believing that this trade helps the Heat but you are dead wrong. I know the Summer is slow, but seriously, turn your brains back on guys.
SRF, hey, you've done nothing wrong as far as i can tell. this story, although plausible, does have some question marks... namely, the fact that it came from a person that knows a person that has some rocket ties, yet felt the need to start a thread asking about new uniforms. seems a little strange to me, too. i'm not saying it's not true, though, because the pieces do fit, and it does make sense for everyone involved.
Love the idea. I would love to have either Ford or Hinrich. Ford, is about as explosive a point guard as you are going to find. He can get to the free throw line with regularity and has great body control while in the air. He can shoot free throw well, which means that his shot has the potential to get better. AI wasn't exactly shooting the lights out when he came into the league. Come to think of it, he is still a streaky shooter. We don't need him to pour in 20 a game. He is a disciplined floor general that will bring stability and excellent ball handling. He looks to run at every opportunity, something the Rockets seem to forget to do from time to time. Defensive wise, TJ's can rely on his lightning speed to help him, but he can also overplay, knowing he has a 7'5'' goalie behind him. As for Hinrich, he is a very good shooter and an even better defender. He just has that look that he could be a quality player for many years. I would like to see the Rox go for Grant instead of Jones. To have a banger there to teach Eddie as well as come off the bench for him will be invaluable. That may be asking for too much. But there is always hope...
please nooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!! According to reports aroung the league, the Rockets are in hot pursuit of T.J. Ford or Kirk Hinrich ------ i wouldnt take either player with the 50th pick in the draft ---- both are college players not nba players!!! YEAAAA!! we should draft duncan instead!!! or if shaq's around in the 2nd round, we should draft him!!! im sorry if that was too hard for you people to understand..... what i meant--- tj ford at best will only be a good college player he will never be a decent nba player and no way would i waste the 5th pick of the draft on him or hinrich ----like i said i wouldnt take him with the 50th pick either of them, it would be a huge mistake for the rockets...!!! for all those who needed clarification...!
I can't wait to save all of these posts talking **** about T.J. I am an OU fan, and I consider it a pleasure to have had the opportunity to watch T.J. play in the Big 12 the past couple of years. He can't shoot?? Guess what - anybody can shoot if they have the work ethic to practice, which T.J. clearly does. Gary Payton couldn't hit the broad side of a barn when he came in the league. For those of you who haven't been paying attention to the NBA for the last few years, let me clue you in. Winning teams collect team-oriented players for whom the word "pass" is not foreign, regardless of what language is used to say it. Dallas, Sacramento, New Jersey, even San Antonio w/ Parker and Ginobili (I did save HeyPartner's post writing Ginobili off after one preseason game last year). This is why Yao was so attractive last year: he is a multi-faceted player who "gets it." T.J. Ford has amazing physical skills and more importantly he "gets it," which is why aside from the top 3 players in the draft -- all of whom are attractive because they also "get it" and aren't just scoring machines -- T.J. is the best player available that i have seen or heard of. T.J. Ford is a proven winner. Steve and Cuttino are proven ball-hogs and losers who either have to be rehabilitated or cut loose. Either one of those guys for Eddie Jones and the 5 pick, assuming Toronto screws up and passes on T.J., is a steal for the Rockets. thanks for the sanity check from Verse and DaDakota.
Without commenting on the legitimacy of the source, it seems plausable that Houston and Miami should have talks. Both seem to have assets that the other might want. Miami might want to move the #5 pick for a veteran, plus the big contracts of Jones and Grant. Miami might want Rice's expiring contract (and to bring him home for a final season), and Mobley's comparatively reasonable contract. Maybe EG as well. Would the Rockets want to trade veterans and/or absorb salary cap albatrosses to get a T.J. Ford? Maybe Les would want this to sell tickets to the new building. To make up for the buzz he didn't get when he lost out on Larry Brown.
Seems like Dwayne Wade wouldn't be a horrible pick at the 5 spot. I know the rockets don't necessarily need another shooter on the team, but he could play 1 or 2 and he's 6'5. He hasn't displayed any real weakness I could see in the few Marquette games I saw this year. I would like to see the Rox go for the more pure point guard type in TJ though. Thoughts?
Trust me when I tell you this. The Rockets would draft Bosh if a trade with the Heat went down. Bosh has too much upside to pass on. JVG has repeatedly called Steve a "Point Guard" and I dont think he has much intent in changing Steve to a 2. Bosh has such a great upside why would the rockets pass on him? Hes already better than EG will ever be and if hes being compared to a Duncan type player what is the hold up? The guy is 6'11 long, quick, explosive, and can shoot the basketball from mid range, pass it and hes assertive in the post. Rockets would not pass on a talent like him to gamble on TJ Ford or Hinrich.
hehe, looks like something i read from 2 years ago......ohh thats right, that was the scouting report on Eddie Griffin. Long 6'11" explosive player who draws comparisons to tim duncan.
http://www.nbadraft.net/profiles/eddiegriffin.htm NBA Comparison: Tim Duncan Strengths: One of the top overall talents in college basketball already... Has all the makings of a future NBA superstar.. Only 18, and has a ton of physical developing to do, a scary thought... Can stroke shots all the way out to college 3... Similar to A-Rahim with his smoothness, and offensive skills, but has even more athleticism.. Very strong post and intermediate game... Has excellent rebounding and defensive skills.. Very calm court demenor, (similar to Tim Duncan) doesn't get rattled easily.. Sometimes the lack of emotion gets confused with a lack of desire, but it's there... Weaknesses: Ball Handling abilities are not super... Needs to get alot stronger.. Needs to get nastier (on the court).. Character questions have resulted from two separate incidents involving off the court fights with teammates, one in HS one in College. Very smooth, like Tim Duncan, plays without much emotion, and his game is very steady but not spectacular. Very effortless looking game. Has good range on his shot. Game is between the 3 and 4 positions but his height, athleticism, and talent make him a blue chip prospect. Shoots very well. Great shotblocker. Character may come into question after he sucker punched Ty Shine and refused to apologize, the second off the court fight in as many years. Must prove that off the court temper problems are not going to be a continuing problem. Eddie Griffin 6-9 205 PF Roman Catholic (Philadelphia, PA)
