So, I guess we are just going to roll with who we currently have on staff and hope for different results than last season... What's the definition of insanity again? As hard as Morey pushes to add top level talent to the roster, it's unnerving to me that he doesn't appear to take the same approach with the coaching staff, especially after seeing how poorly the Rockets responded to Sampson's departure. I try and give Morey the benefit of the doubt, but I have a really hard time believing that Milk Hair and Co. is competent enough to lead this team past the 1st round. I REALLY hope I'm wrong, though.
Can't believe the rockets haven't picked up a defensive coach yet!!!!! Probably one of the most crucial signings of the off season has not happened as of yet.
Power Ranking All 30 NBA Head Coaches Going into 2014-15 Training Camp http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...head-coaches-going-into-2014-15-training-camp #30 thru #27 are the 4 rookie coaches this year: Quinn Snyder, Steve Kerr, Derek Fisher, David Blatt. 26. Jacque Vaughn, Orlando Magic 25. Brett Brown, Philadelphia 76ers 24. Mike Malone, Sacramento Kings 23. Kevin McHale, Houston Rockets 22. Byron Scott, Los Angeles Lakers 21. Brad Stevens, Boston Celtics 20. Flip Saunders, Minnesota Timberwolves 19. Randy Wittman, Washington Wizards 18. Brian Shaw, Denver Nuggets 17. Monty Williams, New Orleans Pelicans 16. Dwane Casey, Toronto Raptors 15. Scott Brooks, Oklahoma City Thunder 14. Jason Kidd, Milwaukee Bucks 13. Lionel Hollins, Brooklyn Nets 12. Dave Joerger, Memphis Grizzlies 11. Mike Budenholzer, Atlanta Hawks 10. Frank Vogel, Indiana Pacers 9. Terry Stotts, Portland Trail Blazers 8. Steve Clifford, Charlotte Hornets 7. Jeff Hornacek, Phoenix Suns 6. Stan Van Gundy, Detroit Pistons 5. Erik Spoelstra, Miami Heat 4. Rick Carlisle, Dallas Mavericks 3. Doc Rivers, Los Angeles Clippers 2. Tom Thibodeau, Chicago Bulls 1. Gregg Popovich, San Antonio Spurs Granted it's the bleacher report, and the piece on McHale referenced Chris fricken clickbait Baldwin, but it just goes to show the national fandom's consensus on McHale. And it shows how crazy it is that we haven't filled that assistant coach position yet. Seems like everyone casually agreed that McHale was this whole new extreme level of a 'player's coach' by not really being a coach at all, but instead a 'figurehead coach.' So how everyone can casually ignore the gaping hole that still is Samspon's absence I just do not understand.
I'd say after your top 12 or 13 coaches, the list blurs until the very bottom of the barrel. It is stupid and arbitrary to rank one coach above another (what makes Randy Whitman so much worse than Dwane Casey? Did Jason Kidd really do that well of a job to get ranked 11 spots ahead of Mchale?) Give me a break
Eh. Making it to the 2nd round of the playoffs in the east is about equal to just making the playoffs in the west. That list is all sorts of crazy though.
No one of any worth wants to be Mchale's assistant... that makes sense. It's simple. Mchale is a trash coach.
If there weren't any good coaches unemployed then I would understand why the organization is just sitting on Mchale. But there is no reason to settle, when there is Rick Adelman, JVG, George Karl, Mike Brown and others just licking their chops at a chance to work with our roster.
Not sure I'd want any part of Mike Brown. And Adelman is all but retired at this point. But I agree about not settling for mediocrity(and that word is being kind given McHale's shortcomings). Anyone know what McHale is getting paid on that 4th year option? I know Les has somehow earned the reputation of being willing to spend money to improve this team(which I think is complete BS, personally), but I'm starting to wonder if that was a motivating factor in bringing him back another year vs having to shell out major dollars to lure the likes of Karl, Hollins, or one of the Van Gundys.
As I recall... Chris Finch was one of the main reasons the team parted ways with Adelman. Finch better be "all that" or else it was another questionable move by the organization. btw, has anyone heard Chris Finch speak? The past few years it was either Bickerstaff or Sampson that would give the interviews. Even after Sampson left you didn't hear from Finch.
I saw a video last week on USA Today Sport's "Hoops Hype" that predicted that Kevin Mchale would be coach of the year next season....I can't make this stuff up
This seems to be the accepted truth. Rick didn't want Finch on his staff so he had to go. Rick is on record as wanting to remain as head coach here. The only thing he couldn't tolerate was Morey messing with his assistants. That seems a little peculiar now with recent Morey quotes about how "it's up to Kevin" to determine whether or not a replacement for Sampson is needed. What's Daryl's angle here?
So I guess were just gonna roll with who we got Definition of insanity Morey dumb Blah blah blah Patience isn't a thing anymore it seems. Hope Dunn helps the team.
