Steve Patterson hired Rudy as the interim for Chaney back in the day.

Steve is going to be hiring a GM shortly.

How much of a reach is it to imagine Steve reaching out to Rudy (one of the few coaches who could probably be sold as a replacement for Mo 'Star Spangled Banner' Cheeks)? Portland then could release Mo to Philly (or even extract compensation?).

How would Rudy be greeted the first time back in the new arena? Think Clyde that February. Think the championships.

Rudy, we miss you already (and you're still here...sorta).

Rudy is under contract for another two years at a FAT salary. He can't work for another team, and why would he when he can collect his huge paycheck without the stress of coaching?

Why would Patterson need Rudy T?

Patterson and Paul Allen would be calling the shot$ and they already have quality young coach.

Why would Portland release him so Philly can sign him? To be nice? LOL

Look for Patterson to do get rid of cancer on that team.

    Horrible choice of words...

I would like to think that Rudy was let go in part because of his health. I don't believe he is taking another job right now for that reason. Maybe in a year or two someone will come calling to interview him. But, I also believe he wants his pro basketball carreer to end the way it started, with the Rockets.

Just wanted to mention that in my new Sports Illustrated that came in today (with DRob on the cover), they gave Rudy a little section and update on his health condition. What I found interesting is that it mentioned that Rudy was offered the job to coach New Orleans before they hired Tim Floyd. Rudy had no interest and just wanted to be a laid back scout again.
