In my senior year of college in Boston, I absolutely love it (born/raised in Houston). I'd live here in a second.
Boston is great! I know Boston better than any town that I've never lived in. Even moreso than Austin. Barcelona is a close second. Stuttgart is climbing the charts. It's a tough call. But man, it is more expensive than I thought. I thought Boulder was expensive. Boston is off the charts. The next few months of negotiation will be interesting, as they try to extract me from Boulder to move to Boston. I think I'd rather move back to Houston than Boston. GO ROCKETS!!! sth!
The "Famiglia Giogios" and "Mike's Pastries" recommendations are good. Be prepared for a long line at Mike's, honestly others in the neighborhood just as good, get a cannoli anywhere. Didn't read any posts after this one, but the reason no one has posted about titty bars is because there are none in Boston because of the Puritan heritage. I mean there are technically two in Downtown Crossing, but if you are from Houston then I wouldn't waste your time.
That's right. It's amazing also try the lamb kebab's. Funny thing it was featured on Food Network when I was channel surfing the other day. You actually drive by it every time you exit Logan, so it's literally 1 mile from the airport, but you have to scale a fence to get over there.
My wife had a trip to Boston this summer and she reports back that Mike's Pastry is still the real deal as it was when we both lived in Boston (1988-1992). If you go to Mike's, get the Lobster Tail (La Sfogliatella). I noticed from their website that they ship! I suspect a Lobster Tail is in my future
There is a Uburger that is incredibly underrated near Kenmore. Also near Kenmore is Bertucci's, and that is great as well. Not sure if these are chains or not, but haven't seen them anywhere else in the US. Hanging out near the Charles River on their parks is cool, like walking, biking, people watching, etc. And of course, you can visit the pansy school MIT and watch a bunch of short nerds with big backpacks. Edit: Concur with Mike's Pastry, Legal Seafood, and North End.
The Boston gig has been cancelled... What? Yeah. I wouldn't worry about it though, it's not a big college town.
In case anyone just hops on Dunvale and drives until they see W. Gray, Romano's is actually at Gray and Dunlavy. Not as big a fan of their pizza as I once was.
I live near Boulder. As much as I loved Boston (lived there for five years), I probably wouldn't leave to move back there.
