I hope this is just fishwrap filler, because it is scary if it happens: http://www.nypost.com/sports/nets/36830.htm JASON TO KINGS TALK IN THE AIR By FRED KERBER June 18, 2003 -- NET NOTES The off-season officially has begun for the Nets. It wasted very little time getting very interesting. Assistant coach Eddie Jordan interviewed for a second time with the Sixers yesterday and is scheduled to interview today in Washington for the Wizards' head coaching job. Jordan could receive an offer by the end of the week from one of the teams. Even more interesting, but strictly in the stage of rumor, is a report floating around concerning Jason Kidd and a potential sign-and-trade with Sacramento. Kidd, who all along said the Nets were his first choice in free agency, seemed to back off during the Finals and after the Nets were beaten by the Spurs, saying he would look at all options and it would take time for a decision. Now, there are whispers of a sign-and-trade of Kidd for Mike Bibby and Hedo Turkoglu. Nets team president Rod Thorn is hopeful Kidd stays put. "We've got a good team. Obviously Jason is the catalyst and he makes it go. Hopefully he'll want to stay here and everything will work out," Thorn said.
Someone must be trying to invent a way to get Kidd "home" (closer to the Bay Area). A third team with cap space would have to be involved to offset not only Bibby's 75% BYC but Kidd's 100% BYC.
Not sure if Kidd really fits in well in Sac. He'll have to try and function well away from the ball. Sac doesn't need a PG to run the show, which is obviously Kidd's strength.
Yes I'm sure they rather have Francis then Bibby. But I don't want Kidd on this team anymore. At least not at the cost of Francis. Kidd is good during the regular season and the Easter Conference Playoffs. Its all run and gun and fun and games then. But when the game slowed down to a half court battle against San Antonio Kidd totally dissapered from some games. And the Western Conference is a half court battle basically every night.
The BYC is up. They can sign sign Kidd and trade him straight up for Bibby. If you're Sac, why would you do it though? If healthy, they're the best team in the league already so why trade a 24yr old pg for a 30 yr old?
I agree...Jason Kidd isn't that great to me! He does make some baeutiful passes and is very good at anticipating and setting people up. I wouldn't give up Francis AND Griffin for him. But....on the Nets...Jason Kidd would not have had YAO MING and MAURICE TAYLOR. Here...he can do the same stuff he did with Richard Jefferson with James Posey and Kelvin Cato and Cuttino. Francis AND Griffin for Kidd? No way. Maybe Francis and Griffin for Kidd and Aaron Williams or Rodney Rodgers or something. Bibby and Turkoglu for Kidd is kinda good. The Kings don't even need Turkoglu anymore. And Kidd is much better than Bibby....but he can't shoot that well.
i think if arenas leaves, golden state is a big possibility for kidd. they can afford a little higher that the MLE and being at home is what kidd wants
ROXTXIA- 100% BYC? Huh? You're pretty off base on this one. A.) 100% BYC would mean full contract value...or the same as no BYC at all. B.) 75% BYC no longer exists.(see C) C.) Bibby has 50% BYC. All deals taking place after July 1 of 2001 only go through the first phase of BYC, not 50% and 75%. Further, it expires 1 year from the day it enacted. In Bibby's case, that's August 15. If they wait until then to consummate a deal, there would be no BYC problem from Bibby's side. D.) There are many misconceptions about BYC. Because most of the players getting max contracts are coming off rookie scale contracts, here is one of them. First off, BYC is only enacted if a player receives a 20% raise- Jason Kidd made 9.2 million last year. If he were to sign even for an 11 million starting salary, BYC would not kick in. But even in the case that he signs for more than 11 million, BYC would not be too big of a problem in his case. Most people think BYC is just the 50% rule, and New Jersey could only take back half his salary. In actuality, the comparative salary for trades is either 50% OR his previous year's salary, which in Kidd's case is 9.2 million. That means New Jersey could take back 10.5 million in trade (115%+100K). Hedo and Bibby make 11.5 million- if the Nets added a player who makes about 1 million, like Brandon Armstrong, it'd work just fine for the Nets. Hedo/Bibby for Kidd/Armstrong works perfectly after August 15, and as long as Kidd's first year is about 12.2 million or below. Jason Kidd has 9 years NBA experience, so his max salary can be 30% of the team's salary cap. If the cap is 42.5 million as conjectured by some, his max would be 12.75 million. I think Kidd would swallow that 500-600K loss per year. We're talking over a 6 or 7 year deal, a total difference of about 3 or 4 million on a contract that'll be worth over 90 million easily. I'm not sure Kidd goes to Sacramento, but who knows. I do think New Jersey would be smart to take Kidd-Lite (Bibby) and try to build on what they had. More importantly for them, Bibby and Hedo would actually give them a pair of guys who can (gasp) hit a jump shot. Sacramento actually doesn't worry me all that much. Vlade's getting old, and it's very hard to find good centers-and as long as we have Yao, that's a huge edge. Webber is still a loser who gets hurt a lot. I think they might be a new age Utah Jazz- several guys who could be considered franchise players, but not the makeup of a championship team.
Let's just say GS could put together a Sign and Trade for Jason and the Nets -- how does playing for the Warriors make GS/Kidd a championship contender?
