I also forgot to add: take the check to you're bank and deposit it again ( which will bounce) and ask them to stamp it.

You didn't give any advice, nor did you set up a redirect to HPD's website while fielding sexually inappropriate texts from close family members, and you should be applauded for that.

However, moot (moot) and mute (myoot) are not phonetical.

You might be dyslexic, but there's nothing legendary about spelling words incorrectly.

Now, as always, I tend to err on the side of caution and believe you're just completely full of ****.

The guy's anger is deflecting of his embarrassment. People always seem the maddest when they are really just embarrassed.

Consider that you made a mistake loaning someone money. Never loan a friend money you wouldn't just give him as a gift, because if they had the means to repay you, they probably wouldn't borrow from you.

You lost some money, you lost a friend and learned a lesson.

Actually the lesson is, if you're gonna help out a friend, make it a gift and never expect the money back, or don't do it at all.

this guy is obviously NOT your friend. If he was he would pay you back the money that you loaned him to get HIM out of a jam.

Bingo, take him to court over the bad check.

I wouldn't count him as a friend. If you guys were sincerely tight, you would have worked it out with no hard feelings.

If you have a friend you care enough about to loan them $3K, they should be a good enough friend for you to give them $3K.

I have friends I'd lend that kind of money to, but they are friends that are more like family.

Edit: My advice is to not take your friend to court. You don't go into enough detail regarding your friendship to know exactly what to do, but I wouldn't recommend burning bridges. You'll waste time, energy, & money with no guarantee you'd actually collect. You are probably better off trying to see if cooler head prevail.

The good news is, this thread is now ranking for the dad's name. ;-) That may give you some ideas on how to get payback.

Surprised that no one has mentioned this yet... You should immediately contact Judge Judy, Judge Mathis, or Judge Alex and settle this on one of their shows.

I don't understand all this talk questioning if the money is worth it to lose a friend. Based on what the OP said, who the hell needs a friend like that?

This is actually pretty sound advice. I've done some mediations in small claims court at a local JP court during law school and been able to settle these type of things.

Usually if you just tell both parties that they could get the short end of the stick in front of the Judge they tend to be more amicable to coming to some sort of agreement.

It'll cost you time and money but I think it's a feasible way to recoup some of your dinero.

You can PM me if you need further advice / have any questions.

that's a $1200 lesson you just learned. gift friends/family the money with no expectations of getting anything in return. if you can't do that, don't loan it. forget about the $1200 and the friendship.
