Denver has landed the 05' All-Star game.

It's A Slam Dunk: NBA Goes Mile High For '05 All-Star Game

    Nuggets Awarded ’05 All-Star Game

NBA Commissioner David Stern announced yesterday that Denver will host the '05 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, February 20 (NBA). In Denver, Chris Tomasson reports that the Nuggets are "making what amounts to a guarantee to their current season-ticket holders" regarding tickets to the event. Nuggets Senior VP/Ticket Sales Paul Andrews: "We will have enough tickets for the All-Star Game to take care of every single current full-price season-ticket holder who renews for next season and the year after." Tomasson notes that Andrews "is referring to season-ticket accounts, not number of seats." Andrews added, "I'm guessing that the next 500 people who create an account will be able to get (an All-Star) ticket." Stern: "Season-ticket holders are invariably not able to secure tickets that they normally would. And that's just the way it is. The way we deal with the communities to which we go is they know that up front. But in terms of the economic benefit and the development and what it often does for franchises, that's the way it is." Nuggets Owner Stan Kroenke: "I really think that the pluses far outweigh the minuses. How many times do you have a chance to bring an event like this to the city?" (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 6/17). Also in Denver, Anthony Cotton notes that Kroenke was "certainly the driving force behind the city securing this bid." Denver "reportedly beat out bids from New Orleans and Houston" (DENVER POST, 6/17).

I guess we'll have to wait for 2006.

Denver was guaranteed a date from 2004-2006 a while back, and the NBA gave them 2005. Doesn't really change things, IMO.

New arena. The league will usually promise an All-Star game to help the team in bargaining with the city.
