Being that I'm from VA, it's kinda hard to go to games in Houston to see Steve (which is my favorite player). So you can imagine how excited I was when my phone was ringing off the hook from friends telling me he was in town. So I CALLED IN to work to go to the mall to see him. First of all, he was supposed to be there at 5pm and didn't show up until 6:15. Now the entire time I was waiting, EVERYBODY in the store knew that I was huge fan and all I wanted was to have him sign my jersey. DO YOU KNOW THAT HE DIDN'T SIGN ANYTHING FOR ANYBODY and said that he was only letting his artist sign autographs. He acted like he was God's gift and only stayed in the store for about 15 minutes. I was floored. I always heard about the "spoiled brat" attitude but I didn't want to believe it. Say it ain't so Stevie.
So I imagine that he was only there to promote an artist under his new record label? I don't blame him for not setting up an autograph booth and drawing all this attention to himself when it was supposed to be about the artists under his label.
He signed my game program after the Rockets vs. Cavs game at Gund Arena, and that was after a loss (to Cleveland at that!). So like Creed said, I guess he just didn't want to take any attention away from his artist.
He didn't want to upstage the artist - and then left when it became obvious his presence alone would do that. . . That doesn't seem like a bad thing to me.
I'll spread a little bit of Stevie Franchise around. From now untill Saturday the 21st at midnight, whoever puts the biggest tip in the ClutchCity jar will recive an autographed practice jersey signed by Steve Francis. No Joke.. I just need one of the higher ups to tell me who donated the most money by Saturday morning, or soon there after. Good Luck!
Id rather get free lap dances. Throw that in and you'll have a much better response. Maybe YoYao will sell his cereal to raise the money.
No suprise to me. I knew Francis was a jerk the moment the Grizzlies drafted him and his whole reaction after hearing his name called.
Good eye, Xenogears. It's a rare talent to be able to judge a person based on one emotional incident several years ago. I'm impressed. I also like the way you were able to see through the extra effort Steve went through to welcome the rookie, Yao, and make him feel welcome. Some people might be fooled by that kind of thing, or the way Steve shouldered responsibility for the Rockets losing ways. You were also perceptive enough to know that Steve going out of his way to make himself available at the first couple of all-star games he went to was nothing compared to the one incident four years ago at the draft. Your ability to completely and accurately surmise a persons worth and judge them based on one event that took place on a scale that most of us know nothing about, completely impresses me. I'm sure you also hate John Elway who refused to play for the Raiders who were going to draft him. It's great to judge people on one incident and ignore the rest of their actions!
Yeah, I bet you would you cheap ass. Stay away from my club as bodyly possible. And don't ever use YoYao's name again when responding to one of my post. (No offense YoYao)
Actually FB I believe it was the Baltimore (at the time) Colts Elway didn't want to play for and pressured him into trading him to Denver. Not a big deal just being overly picky. The point is valid though.
I didn't know Vancouver liked to spend their lottery picks on jerks, but you seem to know everything about the team they had, don't you? Jeez, I can't believe how many people misunderstand what happened on draft day. Look, it's really simple. If you are a point guard that's looking to be a starter on a team, would you be jumping up and down to play behind Mike Bibby? Vancouver drafted Bibby just ONE YEAR before they drafted Francis in the 1999 draft. They were still stupid enough to draft two point guards with two lottery picks, though. They basically asked for the trade but were the only ones who didn't know about it. Days before the draft, Francis went out in the press and said he didn't want to play for them. How much a bigger signal do you need? Do you need a secret decoder ring to read the newspapers or to watch the news? If Carmelo Anthony (not to say he's comparable to Francis, but bear with me here) went to the press and said he wouldn't play for Denver, would the Nuggets still draft him? Only if they were intending to draft him for some other team, maybe. That's pretty much what Vancouver ended up doing... they were just too stupid to realize what they were doing. You're entitled to your own opinion about anything but at least figure out what you're looking at before you decide whether you like it or not.
Maybe their plan was to trade Bibby, and build around Francis. Regardless, Francis pouted a little too early, imo. Dumb draft move by the Grizz, definitely. However, I would have thought Francis would have appreciated being a #2 overall pick, considering that he barely played organized basketball in high school. The Cavs have Ricky Davis and Miles at SG/SF, but I doubt LeBron will have a "trade me now or die" look on his face. Fact is that Francis could have/should have put on a better face. But all in all, it doesn't mean crap now.
Doesnt surprise me. When I met him a year ago, he hit on my ex-girlfriend, but ended up buying me a drink at the end of the night. Cuttino was much more laid back than Steve.
Franchise was really cool when I met him on May 5th 2001. Got him to autograph a portrait, and we chatted for like 3 minutes.
I guess you can say the same thing about Kobe not wanting to play in Charlotte, right? I have seen Steve around town and he has always been nice to the pubic and fans. There are no stories about Steve being a jerk in Houston. Plus, FSFemale07 signed up to the board JUST to tell us this story? I am calling BS on this.
