JVG is just a big meanie. He actually gets on his players for under acheiving. Hey, that rhymed...sort of.
JVG is a workaholic and is pissed off by players not focused as much on winning as he is. Also, he thinks Jesus freaks in the locker room are a bad influence - they take the focus off of basketball.
After reading that article I am even more convinced that Jeff Van Gundy is exactly what this team needs.
Thanks raging fire, that was er, intense. I agree with your take on it, When Rudy was gone I wanted a disciplinarian and a teacher. Van Gundy fit the bill, and I'm pleased. After reading those articles, I've got to admit to some concern. I realize we have some problems with players on this team, but I'm not down on any indidvidual as some are here. We all know ideally they would just all improve, and we know that's not likely to happen. That CD seemed to hit it off so good with Van Gundy lessens a lot of the impact of those articles, but makes me wonder if he shouldn't have spent a week with Van Gundy somewhere in a remote cabin in W. Texas before making a decision (lol, I believe the Rockets had to move quickly). Well, I'm trying to be objective here, I don't think the articles were hatchet jobs, but at the same time some of his quotes are likely to be met with differently here. Since I'm not sure Pine's services are really needed, perhaps he could slide over and translate for Van Gundy. God andgolf, huh? Well, I'm indifferent toward golf. If Dream had wanted a mini-mosque built around his locker, it wouldn't have bothered me. Who knew Knicks prayed? We wanted intensity, we got it. Don't you get the feeling that female reporter had to fight off the urge to tell Jeff to "shut up" and finish him off with a right cross? Great title of this thread, raging fire - it fits and that's why it's so funny. I do pray my dark side has a little more pizazz, oh hell that's right, I'm from Texas, nothing to worry about .
I agree. Nothing in the article gives me concern for the future of the Rockets- if Steve and co. want to win as much as they say they do. concern for Van Gundy personally maybe, but not for the Rockets.
Granted, but you and others are making the assumption that JVG hasn't learned anything from what lead up to his quitting the knicks. Who's to say he wasn't grilled by Les and co. about how that all went down? I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. We'll just have to wait and see.
