Im going to visit soon and wanted to know of any cool new up and coming areas that have good restaurants and bars. Or if there are any good restaurants anywhere. TIA.
I just went there this weekend. The Riverwalk is cool if you don't know it. They have a a bunch of restaurants and bars. It will be crowded and hot so dress for the heat and plan around it if you want. We stayed at the Omni on the Riverwalk and got a great rate for a Saturday. Our concierge recommended against going to the Chart House restaurant at the top of the Tower of the Americas. I would check reviews before you eat anywhere, the service and food is pretty horrendous at some of the places. Check out Dick's Last Resort if you can. I haven't checked out many other areas though, my experiences there are pretty much only with Fiesta Texas, Riverwalk, and Sea World.
Alamo café on 281 Go to the riverwalk for bars as it is where all the tourist girls are. There aren't that many attractive women in SA.
Ive been to the River Walk but trying to stay away from the super-touristy. I dont even know if San Antonio and "super-touristy" belong in the same sentence but I digress. I just want something of a local feel that is up and coming with good vibe bars.
never found a lot of good places when I lived there... for food though... Try Two Brother's Barbecue friend...
I really think that Pearl Brewery area might be it. That's where I would go. Not sure how big of an area it is. But it has more of an Austin feel to it.
Whatever you do, please do not visit Mi Tierra, that food was a joke. I could of went to the local Taqueria and it would of been 10x better. Atmosphere wise it was pretty cool but to wait that long for that food was pathetic.
Get a burger at Chris Madrid's. http://www.chrismadrids.com/ Hang out at The Monterey for good food and wine (and beer). http://www.themontereysa.com/ Breakfast tacos at Taco Haven are also not to be missed. http://www.tacohavenpresa.com/
el marcado > riverwalk if you like guayaberas you need to go to Penner's and pick up a few and i completely disagree with the previous opinion of mi tierra, mi tierra is very good food
My dad happened to send me a link just this morning about Hot Joy making Bon Appetit's best 10 new restaraunts.
Thats why I was wondering about S Alamao St. I did a street view on Google and it looks like there are other restaurants/bars there.
the San Fernando cathedral light show was worth a look if you happen to be around the riverwalk area at night. http://blog.mysanantonio.com/downto...minated-by-artist-richemonts-work/#20052101=0 Bohanan's for a good steak.
