Possibly. I'd have to think about it. Marshall really isn't a PF, so that would leave you short at that position, but I like his game and I assume Van Gundy would like his game. But I don't knwo if I'd give up both PF's for a SF/PF combo. Here's a trade I'd definitely do: Eddie, Mobley, Norris for Jamal Crawford, Donyell Marshall, Marcus Fizer Trade accepted.
We don't have a real PF now. Marshall can play that position, most likely better than EG or Taylor. This trade will give Bulls more in terms of player value, but give Rox an upgrade on PF position. Besides, Rox gets rid of Taylor's fat contract. Marshall is similar to Thomas, good rebounder, but taller. If he can put on some weight, it will be better.
Saw a lot of Donyell Marshall in GSW. He was drafted high in the lottery by MIN after being a stud at UConn... big, fast, mostly filled the lane but was long. His lack of real skills and sleepy look (made him appear lazier than he was) hurt him in MIN, plus an injury, and he was buried on the bench. He was traded to GSW when GSW looked to move Googs. So Marshall had two stigmas... as part of the Webber trade and part of the Goods trade. Big contract. Always looked sleepy, lazy, and soft. Started to develop some offesnive skills and was actually pretty effective when paired later with Antawn Jamsion since Marshall was big enough to play D on PFs and like to float out on the outside, opening up the inside for jamison. Still, GSW traded him away, and he had a decent year in UTA and then in CHI. Defensively, he is mostly a weakside defender than blocks shots (kinda like Griffin but with less quickness). Loses players on defense though. Decent passer and handles the ball pretty well for his size. Can shoot too. Has bulked up over the years, but he is far from Kenny Thomas in strength or aggressiveness. I wouldn't put him high on any list... better to get a "junk yard dawg" type of PF than someone whose nickname used to be "Onyell"...
I don't know why the Bulls would want Griffin and Taylor though. Even without Marshall, they still have Chandler, Fizer, and Baxter at the PF spot.
Marshall had pretty good stats with the Bulls. In 78 games(53 starts), he averaged 30 MPG, 13 PPG, 9 RPG, and over 1 steal and block per game. His FG% was .459, PT3% .379, FT% .756. http://www.nba.com/bulls/stats/
Well those stats are decent; however, Marshall's other stats indicate he is not that great: Points per shot = 1.16 Free throw attempts a game = 3 The 1.16 points per shot indicate that Marshall, on offense, is not efficient and the low free throw attempts indicate 1) He is not aggressive 2) He does not get the benefit of the calls. Marshall is an upgrade compared to Taylor; however, he is not the power forward of the future that this team needs.
I would do a Mobley for Marshall trade if the bulls would take it. Marshall can and most times play the 3 spot. Francis,Posey,Marshall,Griffin,Ming would be a very good defensive team and good rebounding team also. Off the bench comes Morris,Nachbar,Taylor,Norris,Cato. The Rockets have ways to improve without giving away good talent without getting good talent back. Its just a matter of them actually knowing what they really want to do.
Not sure if he really helps us. We need a PF who can defend the West PFs. Marshall doesn't provide much defense. Don't mistake offensive rebounding for playing good defense.
Donyell is one of the most underrated rebounders in the game. I'd love it if Houston could some how bring him in. He definitely fills the Rockets most glaring need and could maybe be picked up for cheaper than he's worth.
