springs + latex core + thin layer of not too dense memory foam works best for me.

Nothing is nicer than sleeping directly on latex though, with no mattress protectors/pads/casings/toppers etc. between you & the foam except for a single sheet, if you don't mind degrading your foam that much faster.

Got a Posturepedic pillowtop mattress and absolutely love it. My buddy is in the mattress business and says sleep numbers are relatively terrible; they are the most returned mattress out there.

Yeah, we might start shopping in September. Last time we shopped in one store for about 20 minutes before buying one. Circumstances were different and we had to buy ASAP, but this go around we'll take our time.

I'm partial to spring mattresses, but it'll be my wife's choice since she's having the back issues.

Sleep number is an air mattress. I sell temps and they take a month or two to get used to. Your back isnt used to that much support and is likely adjusting. Try switching pillows if your neck hurts. Pm me and you can come buy a new pillow if that sounds like a good solution. I'll give you the cf discount.

Also to note: temp provides the best support... Backs are adjusting... Or even correcting better, as you sleep... If you haven't been on a good mattress, then it's going to make you a little sore. Honestly it sounds like a like issue since you said neck. A pillow should match your sleep style and body.

I've had both a tempurpedic and a sleep number.

I was ridiculously disappointed by the sleep number. We got it for my wife's back pain, but it made her worse, and it made me start to have back pain where none existed previously.

I've had the tempurpedic for about 5 years and it is awesome. I sleep like a baby, and my wife's back pain is much better than it's ever been. The only down side at all is that I have to made sure to flip the bed around periodically to keep an indention from forming under me. But they actually detail that in the instructions.

I have a natural latex mattresses. A good one will come in various pieces so you can mix and match your firmness. It's fantastic.

Order from them, one of the co-founders is from Houston, and I highly recommend supporting the company!! Apparently Ashton Kutcher ordered one last week

I guess i will end up keeping just the base from the tempurpedic (400 bucks) and return the mattress.

I definitely would order from them if you are in the market for a new bed. Great bed and one of the co-founders is a good friend. Let me know if you end up getting one!

Latex is not as "natural" as they make it out to be. It's a bed marketed to sound all friendly and perfect. But do your homework. Latex mattresses aren't any cooler than Tempurs. Tempurs have specific layers to deal with heat and special versions, the breeze versions, that are designed to take heat downward. Icomfort is another brand, made in Houston, and also has gel infused foam to help with heat dispersion. This idea of a hot sleep is aimed mostly toward hot sleepers; primarily women in menopause who blame the bed. Additionally people who insist on using too many sheets and blankets in an arid or tropical climate.

My only advice is: Don't buy a bed without laying on it for sure.

This website has a good side-by-side comparison between both latex and foam. Essentially, they each have their benefits. Tempur however is not average memory foam. It's the high-end of that material and will last longer than other types of foam, including cheap latex.

We have an older sleep number. I have had 2 back surgeries and my wife 1. We both love it although the middle of the mattress can get a little interesting.

I've had all 3. Tempurpedic all the way. It will take up to a month for your body to adjust to the tempur because it's not use to it. In a way your body is having to realign itself to it's more natural posture so for those with really bad posture it may take a bit. I've had the tempur for over a year and had one when I lived with my in laws but never had any issues with heat. I assume you put a bed sheet on the mattress? Try using a different a different type sheet if heat is a problem.

I owned a sleep number for 5+ years and while it was comfortable, it doesn't compare to the tempur. The sleep number deflated quite often so we always had to reset it to the desired comfort level.
