Did the Rocks a mistake by trading Jefferson for Griffin ? Maybe Griffin will be a special player, but right now, you've got to admit than Jefferson is better. Maybe this will change in a few years but : Jefferson 01-02 : 9.4 ppg 3.7 rpg 0.457 fg% Jefferson 02-03 : 15.5 ppg 6.4 rpg 1.00 spg 0.501 fg% Griffin 01-02 : 8.8 ppg 5.7 rpg 1.84 bpg 0.36 fg% Griffin 02-03 : 8.6 ppg 6 rpg 1.44 bpg 0.40 fg% Jefferson improved, Griffin didn't at all
In hindsight it's easy to say that the Rockets made a mistake, but at the time of the trade, EVERYONE here thought that Griffin would blow up and be the second coming of Kevin Garnett. That hasn't happened, but don't bash the Rockets for a trade that 95% of us would have made if we were the GM.
I don't fault the Rockets for making that trade. I was one of the very few who actaually thought right from the beginning that the Nets got the better end of it, but still, I felt it might end up helping us. And it still may work out. You know, I don't want to be an ******* or anything, but it says you joined in Oct. 2002. Haven't you noticed all the other Griffin threads that have covered this exact topic, especially over the last few days, when there have been three or four on the frontpage at some points? Try not to start too many duplicitous topics. I'm sure everyone's done it at least once, but in future, try to look a little harder.
Sorry, I am not a frequent user... I joined in October 2002 but I started to post just few weeks ago...
Yeah, I figured as much. No big deal. All the Griffin threads were seriously getting on some guys nerves, that's all.
Probably 95% of all basketball people at the time would have done the deal. If scouts could look into hearts etc etc. It also helps that RJ really fit in with what Jersey does. Maybe (I hope I hope) EG will flourish in a new system. BTW - IMO with Nets in Finals revisiting this deal is understandable.
The comment about Jefferson fitting in with New Jersey is valid. Will Jefferson turn into the next Shandon Anderson. Very good complimentary player with Utah/Stockton, mediocre away. Perhaps a rich man's Anderson.
I'd rather have Yao and Griffin than just Jefferson. This assuming that we would have been a few games better with Jefferson than with Griffin (Which would makes sense since it would allow for Kenny Thomas to play more minutes.)
It might be repetitive or redundant, sure, but duplicitous? I hardly think so. You owe said gentleman an apology......
How many jump shots has Jefferson hit in the Finals? It's not hard to put up an impressive field goal % in the regular season when you're the beneficiary of 3 on 1s with Kidd leading the way. The guy is just a superb athlete, and not much more. Why was he shut down the first couple games of the series? The Spurs put Stephen Jackson on him, and neutralized his athleticism. For his career, he's below 25% from beyond the arc. That's the type of player we should surround Yao with. He is yet to hit a 3 in the playoffs, and I can guarantee you that it's not because team's are crowding him o the arc. He's not a shooter. At all. Honestly, I'd rather have Posey, who showed some semblance of shooting ability late in the season. Jefferson had 2 more years experience than Griffin, and also played under a much better program/coach. Let's see what Griffin comes back with in the fall.
Not again! Anyway I still have hopes for Griffin. Ask this question after JVG works alittle with him. Also remember that this trade helped us get Yao, we might not have gotten him if we didn't make the trade.
This question is flawed by the fact that we didnt trade Jefferson for Griffin and its is erroneous to consider it in this manner! The Rockets traded picks and selected the players the Nets wanted while the Nets selected the player the Rockets wanted. From what I understand Jefferson was not going to be selected by the Rockets, even if they hadn't traded picks.
There was no mistake. RJ has certain advantages over EG helping his development: primarily Jason Kidd. It is easier for a young player to find his stroke and gain his confidence when playing with Kidd than when playing with Francis, Mobley and Norris.
Eddie still needs more time before we can label the move as a mistake. We knew when he traded for him that he'd be a project. I know he didn't show much improvement last season, but I still think he can become a fairly good player once he fully matures. Jefferson is extremely overrated. He'd be James Posey II if he were on this team. He just benefits from having a pass 1st, shoot 2nd point guard on his team. I'm not going to jump ship on Eddie Griffin...
