I'm looking to pick up an SSD for my Windows system. I would like something in the 120-240 GB range. Anny suggestions on a good reliable drive at a decent price? Anyone have good/bad experiences with certain brands?

SAMSUNG SSDs are the BOMBS (oops, sorry, don't mean to offend anyone involved in the conflict). In a close second are KINGSTONs.

What's the major difference between the SSDs and the regular hard drives? Is it a speed thing because I notice the SSDs aren't really available in larger memory sizes(500gb..etc), so they never interested me.

Yes, speed is significantly better. And they do offer large sizes, as I have a 480GB Kingston SSD. They get pretty pricey though.

Basically SSD is flash memory versus a regular HD which is spinning disks that have to be read. SSD is much better when it comes to speed and durability. It's only more expensive because it is newer... the price will continue to drop and size will go up.

    Decent read... http://ocz.com/consumer/ssd-guide/ssd-vs-hdd

I've been on a samsung for a couple years now. Its been solid and FAST. One of the only products I've bought that essentially met its theoretical speeds.

Same here with Samsung. I use Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SSD as my system drive.

I think Samsung, Crucial, SanDisk make good SSDs.

I have the EVO 250 because I use it as the system drive. I bought it at Micro Center for about $150, I believe. It was on sale.

Another vote for Samsung. Mine has been running without a single problem for 3 years now. I use it primarily as a boot drive but I do have my Skyrim mods installed onto it.

I ended up with a solid deal on mine: 128GB 830 Series for $85.

My current machine has an OCZ Vertex2 120GB. I have to install a lot of stuff, including my Steam games, on another drive because it's so small.
My new machine will have a Samsung 840 EVO 1TB drive.
Either way, SSD is the way to go.

I would stay away from kingston. Samsung is great. I forget what i have but i think its a crucial. Been having it for over 2 years. No problems yet.

The hard drive will outlive my computer. I'm pretty close to wanting a new computer soon.

I need at least 512gb to use a SSD as an OS disk and to store all my apps and games.
Anyone know when the price will go down dramatically?

Man what in the heck are you installing that you need that much hard drive space? Use a "small" SSD for OS, install apps on a separate drive!

well you shouldnt be using one giant drive anyway....use a 120 or 256gb SSD as your OS drive and get a regular 1 TB drive for storing other files like movies/mp3s.

are these available for desktop? My best buy(problem right there) hard drive died after exactly three years, and you guessed it...warranty expired at the same time.
I too stored everything in one giant drive.

I want to install Steam and Origin on the SSD. That will take up a lot of space lol.

    Samsung. Evo or Pro series.

I have an 840 240GB SSD, one of the best purchases I've ever made. From waiting minutes for my system to boot up to seconds.

Only other purchase I've made recently that I've loved as much as the SSD is my LG LED projector.

    Samsung EVO 240 here.

I can't go back to a traditional drive anymore.

SSHD are decent as well but not as good.

I'm probably going to be a SSHD in my ps4

SSDs are well worth it. The best part is once you remove your old HD, just get a case for it and you have yourself a nice big external HDD too.
