Freak accidents do happen. If he just tore his ACL/MCL would there be this much outcry? No, because it wouldn't have looked as gruesome.

Lots of weird things have happened in the offseason, just a few off the top of my head:

Moises Alou ripped up his ACL on a treadmill
Joe Sakic stuck his hand in his snowblower and broke 4 fingers
Jeff Kent broke his wrist washing his monster truck (or popping wheelies on his bike)
Steve Sparks tore his rotator cuff trying to rip a phone book in half
Cecil Upshaw tore all the ligaments in his hand on a bet seeing how high he could jump
Sergio Kindle fell down his own stairs
Eric Johnsson, a hockey player, tore up his knee driving a golf cart
Hunter Pence jumped out of a hot tub and ran through a glass door going to get a condom
    etc...etc...etc...

And I'm not even thinking about all the training/practicing injuries that occur in every offseason in every sport.

    Really? Why the change?

Don't the USA basketball program people check these things?

The difference is between NBA and NCAA regulations for the stanchion placement. NBA arenas are mandated to put it at 4ft minimum; many have it at 5 or even 6 ft. College arenas have it below 4ft.

This is what an arena construction company said about the remedial measures.

“The gap at the bottom [of the stanchion] will need to be closed and the distance from out-of-bounds will need to be increased to a minimum of five-to-six feet,” he told me. “This will require modifications on the seating in many arenas and possible lost seats.”

The Duke gym has the goal suspended from the ceiling! But this would be impossible for NBA-size arenas.

He also said the media people need to be moved out of the area underneath the goal.

On a kind of unrelated note

does anyone else hate the baseline angle that they always replay stuff in. They should get rid of all the media people from there for this reason

Yes. And the courtside seats and the bench so close to action is just dangerous.

They should put a 6 ft buffer around the playing area.

terrible injury for paul george.. but i still think the nba stars will want to represent USA. usa basketball has built a great program since coach k and jerry colangelo took over in 2006. they have a system in place to have a pool of players and have them compete to represent usa with pride.. imo i just think once the initial reaction to this injury dies down, we will still get the stars to play for usa.. heck even k love was distraught over not playin, if he wasnt in this trade discussion he'd definitely be out there playin.

You would think they could reconstruct someone's entire leg by now but they can't. Some things will always stay medieval.

This is a tragic injury for NBA fans. Paul George is one of the most exciting young talents in basketball and I'll miss seeing him on the court. I wish him a full and speedy recovery.

That said, can the East get any worse? I sure hope Rose stays healthy this year because if the Bulls aren't strong and the Cavs add Kevin Love, there will be nothing in the way of the Cavs AT ALL.

Cause countrys spent more money to army/guns/other **** to be ready for war than to medicine and stuff that can safe us lives. 70M$ for c17a? Yeah, there is nothing to improve in our lives for that moneys.

The main concern would have to be that it doesnt heal right.

We've had a few players in the NRL who have suffered lower leg breaks similar to the one George did and they've been forced to retire simply because, for what ever reason, the breaks just didnt heal to 100%.

I hope George comes back to 100% but just the time off will take its toll on his game.

Paul George is a top flight athlete and is a franchise player in the NBA. He'll get the best treatment and Dr care in the world. Theirs no doubt in my mind that he'll heal as strong as ever. It's just a matter of how he takes it mentally. IMO.

Man, terrible injury for PG. So glad that Harden was not hurt on that play or instead if you will.

2 months to recover from surgery and 3 months more to return to a normal gait and then 12 more months to return to the NBA:eek: at similar pre-injury form (if possible)

The players in the NRL who didnt come back are also top flight athletes and the best in the world at what they do. They also had no expense spared in their rehabilitation.

Sometimes all the money and treatment in the world doesnt matter. Just ask Greg Oden....
