If the Rockets got Chuck Hayes back, I'd do a backflip out of joy, or die trying. Chuck Hayes is the man.

Love the guy but that was a failed experiment already. Time to move on.

Chuck was a better defender. Asik was a better scorer.

the modesto mauler ! i'd bring him back as an assistant coach and make TJones and DMo follow him around all season. As a player - if we didn't already have Dorsey and Adrien, i'd be down for a $6 mil expiring. Adelman got the most out of his ability to pass from the high post -backdoor cuts to the rim all game long. Pretty sure that would be wasted with McHale.

Chuck was a fan favorite, great guy. But a pretty below average NBA player. Definitely overrated here imo

Wouldn't vertical refer to tall centers? I think you mean "horizontal defender," as in lateral.

btw: Chuck Hayes' Salary this year = $5,958,750

With all the crap OP is getting if we still were running Adelman's offense he would be a great fit. I know that we want a stretch four, but it doesn't mean we must have a stretch 4 in at all times. And his passing from the high post would be extremely useful if we could slow down the pace a bit. Would be a nice back up center despite his lack of size (don't forget he was our starting center at one point).

That said, with our current run and gun, isolation, no real game plan style; I doubt he'd be very effective.

My favorite player of those late 00's teams....I remember when KG tried his fake tough guy routine on him. Didn't work out for him.
